History of
the Shoreham Class Sloops.
Developed from the Bridgewater Class Sloops, but
with a longer hull, Built at Chatham and Devonport, Dockyards, The
Shoreham Class Sloops, were laid down between 1929 and 1931. Eight
Sloops made up the Class, with HMS Shoreham being the first launched
followed by HMS Fowey, Bideford, Rochester, Dundee, Falmouth , Milford
and Weston.
After the war HMS Rochester became a tender to the
Navigation School, HMS Falmouth became the RNVR Calliope in 1952.
and HMS Fowey and HMS Shoreham were sold to the mercantile service.
