Marceau Class  French Barbette Battleships.  History and photographs of the battleships of the Marceau class, launched between 1897 and 1890, including Marceau, Neptune and Magenta.

Magenta was built at Toulon and laid down in January 1883, launched April 1890 and completed February 1893. Talking years to complete. the class were obsolete by the time they were completed. their main armament of 13.4 inch guns were inferior to the British 14.5 inch guns of the day.

Displacement:  Marceau 10,558 tons,  Magenta 10,680 tons,  Neptune 10,810 tons.  Crew: 643 to 651  Speed: 16 knots.  Armament: Four 13.4 inch guns,  Sixteen  5.5 inch Quick Firing guns  three/six 9 pdr.  nine/eighteen 3 pdr  Eight/ Twelve  1 pdr revolvers.  plus  three/five  15 -inch Torpedo tubes
