Commander Paul C Chapman DSO OBE DSC* Born around 1920, Paul was the second-in-command of submarine HMS Torbay by 1941. In this role he took part in Operation Flipper, the landing of Commandos by submarine behind enemy lines in an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate General Erwin Rommel in North Africa. He went on to command submarines including H33, Upstart and Unbending during the war. He retired from the navy in 1970, and later published a book about his time on HMS Torbay. Our sources show us that he was alive in 1986, the 45th anniversary of Operation Flipper, and his book was published in 1989, but we have no further information.
