 The Russian Battleship Peresviet in 1901. Original republished © MPL Photograph (Postcard Size). Price £5 Click here to order. Order Code MP5817 The Peresviet was one of a group of three Russian battleships which were very heavy and ugly, but which had great fighting capacity. Their displacement was 12,674, and the continuous sea speed was about 16 knots. The Peresviet had a continuous belt of Harveyised nickel steel made in Russia, which extended nearly the whole length of the ship. She carried four 10 ins guns mounted in pairs in two turrets and eleven 6 in quick firers as well as some smaller guns. The turrets and 6 in guns were well protected but there was a weakness about the defence below the bases of the turrets. |
