The Drive to Juno by Ivan Berryman. (PC)

On 6th June 1944, D-Day, the Canadian steamship HMCS Prince David (F89), seen here in the background, released her compliment of landing craft embarking elements of Le Regiment de la Chaudiere, plus some Royal Marines, bound for Mike and Nan beaches. Their mission was to clear mines and provide cover for the assault craft that were to follow. By the close of the day, all of her landing craft had been lost to enemy action except one that was accidentally forced onto a semi-submerged obstacle by a friendly tank carrier.

Prepare to Ram, Operation Goodwood, Normandy, 18th July 1944 by David Pentland (PC)

Prepare to Ram, Operation Goodwood, Normandy, 18th July 1944 by David Pentland (PC)

While probing forward near Cagny on the initial day of the Goodwood offensive, Lt John Gorman, a troop commander of 2nd Armoured Battalion, Irish Guards, suddenly found himself confronted by a Tiger II and three Tiger Is of the elite 503rd Heavy Tank Battalion. Supported by only one other Sherman, and aware that their 75mm guns would be ineffective against such monsters, he gave the order to his driver to ram the King tiger. Gormans tank Ballyragget succeeded in colliding with its target before the Tigers 88mm gun could be brought to bear on his Sherman, and with both tanks immobilised the crews quickly abandoned their tanks. Lt. Gorman, however, was not finished and making his way off the field, he returned shortly afterwards with a Sherman Firefly, to finish off the stricken Tiger II and one of the Tiger Is. For this action he was awarded the Military Cross, and his driver L/Cpl Baron the Military Medal.

The Kaisers Battle, Operation Michael, France, 21st March 1918 by David Pentland. (PC)

German Stosstruppen of the 18th Army, having broken through the British lines near St Quentin, engage secondary trench lines occupied by men of the 9th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers (36th Ulster Division) . Similar attacks occurred right across the BEFs front, where the new tactics of short bombardments, infiltration, close air support, and non persistent gas had ripped open the British lines.

The Rearguard by David Pentland. (PC)

Preussisch Stargard, East Prussia, February 1945. Following the departure of the platoon's two other vehicles, after expending all their ammunition, the single Jagdpanther of Oberfeldwebel Hermann Bix remained to cover the withdrawal of all supporting infantry in the area. Hidden behind a muck heap, with only twenty armour piercing and five high explosive shells remaining he made the attacking Soviet Shermans pay a heavy price, destroying sixteen of their number before he too fell back out of ammunition.

Battle of the Nations Near Leipzig 16th - 19th October, 1813 By Richard Knotel (PC)

The Battle of Leipzig (also known as The Battle of Nations) was one of the largest battles in the Napoleonic Wars and a decisive victory for the Coalition forces. The battle involved intense fighting and resulted in significant casualties on both sides. Ultimately, the Coalition forces surrounded and defeated Napoleons army, leading to his retreat from Germany and marking a critical turning point in the campaign against his rule in Europe. The Battle of Fredericksburg, fought from December 11th to 15th, 1862 was a significant skirmish in the Civil War. Union General Ambrose Burnside faced Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Burnsides plan involved a direct assault on Lee’s entrenched positions along Maryes Heights, but his forces encountered fierce resistance and suffered heavy casualties. The battle resulted in a devastating defeat for the Union, with Burnsides leadership and tactics heavily criticized which would lead to his eventual replacement.
