HIJMS Akagi

Posts 1 to 1

Photographs of the model of the aircraft carrier Akagi, flagship of the Pearl Harbor attack force (Kido Butai) at the Arizona Memorial Museum. Again, the flash distorts the hull color which is dark gray, not the blue shown in the photos. Some shots have a bit of glare -- on the first day of the Arizona Memorial Museum opening, it was very crowded and hard to get an angle that would prevent glare. This model is exceptional in quality and accuracy and includes the aircraft of the ship's first deck launch spotted exactly as they were on December 7, 1941. The lead high level bomber even has an accurate representation of LCDR Mitsuo Fuchida standing in the cockpit seconds before the Zeros began launching. Admirals Nagumo and Kusaka as well as CDR Minoru Genda are on Akagi's bridge as they were on that fateful day.
