HMS Sheffield

Hi, Anyone know where I can get either 1/144 fittings or a model kit 1/144 of HMS Sheffield Type 42 ? Regards

Model kit of type 42 HMS Exeter 1/700 http://www.fandsscalemodels.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=8313&category_id=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26

Hi whalerman, Thank you for the reply but I need it in 1/144 so that if I cannot find the fittings I can use them from the kit. I was given a model of the 'Sheffield' to restore, I usually work in 1/72 scale. Regards

Hi there, The company that used to do 1/144 was Woodcraft Marine, 3, Furnace Estate, Byerley Road, Shildon, Co. Durham, DL4 1QB. I too have a couple of their ship a DLG (County) and a Sheffield - I too tried but got no response, so don't know if they have ceased trading?. LOL Jack the Gunner.

Just thought I`d post pics of my latest effort ,it`s the ill-fated Type 42 ,Sheffield.I was lucky to see her in Hull ,the year before she went south, never to return. My cousin was in her when she was hit, luckily he survived. I managed to buy the long out of production White ensign kit of the Nottingham, however this vessel is a batch 2 type 42,and some modifications are needed to alter it to a batch 1 ship, mainly around the midships funnel area.I also bought some "Jecobin" plans of the Shiny, which have helped greatly. hope you like it Cheers Phil

Looks like she's coming on well, Phil. What did you use for the water? I've got several kits on my shelf that I keep getting almost motivated to get into. Should just kick myself in the bum and... I dream of one day building a White Ensign model but I think I'll cut my teeth on something else first.

Thanks Andy, Follow the link to see how I make water(if you will pardon the expression!) http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=39041 Get stuck in and build one Andy !! Cheers ,Phil

Not as good an effect as your excellent "sea", but I think passable.............bog standard Airfix kit, "sea" is pollyfilla, painted then given clear varnish. Excuse poor photo..............photography not one of my forte's!

Thanks for the comments.A quick update,I`m detailing the hanger area, and made a start on modifing the mainmast ,it seems to me that every Type 42 had a different mainmast!! Cheers ,phil

This build is really going at a good rate of knots.I`m making the masts ,which have be modified to match the Sheff, and done the detailing around the hanger door area.Thoroughly enjoying this kit, what a pity it isn`t available any longer, nor will ever will be again. cheers,Phil

Well done Phil.:) And it's 'shiney' too, as in the nickname.:D You build pretty quick mate, does the paint actually dry before recommencing the next part??;)

It looks a wonderful model, Phil especially with that unique sea effect. Coincidentally, I noticed a model of the old Sheffield on e-bay the other day. But they want £750 for it. The photo isn't very good, but here's a link if anyone wants to take a peek. Very little description supplied by the vendor. Is it R/C or not? The hull looks like it is scratchbuilt and the scuttles are very amateurish. Is that the case throughout the build? Knowing the astronomical prices levied in this establishment I would offer no more than £250 for it.:D

Phil, It's a good looking model, worthy of HMS Sheffield herself. Let's see the Argentines try and sink this one
