Navy belt.

Posts 1 to 12

When I joined the navy cadets as a boy, I used to wear my grandfathers navy belt. I think it was made out of canvas and leather, and it was blue with a zip pocket where you could keep your money. Were these standard issue or did you have to buy them. They were worn as a trouser belt. Kevin.

When I joined up in 1959 at Ganges they were standard issue. But Press Studs not Zips. Peter.

same in 57' but were they press studs then in place of zips?

going backwards ..... 1953 yes with press studs. Dave H

Thanks Dave, thought I was having another one of them senior moments

I was issued with one on joining, and yes it was press-studs not zippers.I think they went out just after the war. They are not issued to Ratings today. Regards Steve.

My mates had the press stud pockets, I was the only one with the zip. It's probably in my dads attic now. I can remember it was very old and that was back in the 1970's. Kevin.

I should have said my grandad left the RN in August 1945. They had some good quality kit in those days. Kevin.

My father's belt in the 30's was as described; but had a press stud button on the money wallet/pocket. jainso31 Always on the Lookout !
