Thanks Dave for posting that.My Mother and Grandmother were invited by, and met Agar at the opening of an exhibit for the centenary of the VC, which I guess would have been 1956.My sister says I went to, but I was just a wee nipper at the time, and dont remember it well. Cheers John

Hi Dave. Thanks for that post.He certainly seemed to be a very gutsy young officer, and full of initiative....Regards Steve.

Just as an up-date (in case you were not aware?). He is buried in the town cemetery in Alton Hampshire. I will be visiting it at the weekend (mid March 2013) so if anyone wants any further information (location of grave, photo of headstone, etc) please let me know and I'll try and get it.

HM Coastal Motor Boat 4, his boat in the Baltic, is on permanent display at Imperial War Museum, Duxford, together with a gallery dedicated to the activities of the flotilla. :)

Here the award of VC to Agar ; AGAR Augustine W.S N/E Lt. RN 85U168 H.M.C.M.B. 4 Senior Naval Officer Baltic & R/A Commanding 1 L.C. Sqdn. 22.08.19 Gazetted Battle on 17.06.19 VC For most conspicuous gallantry, coolness and skill on the night of the 17th June, 1919, in carrying out a successful attack on the Bolshevik Cruiser "Oleg" under difficult conditions in connection with operations in the Baltic. To accomplish this it was necessary to penetrate a screen of Destroyers, and owing to a breakdown Lieutenant Agar was compelled to remain in close proximity to the enemy for 20 minutes whilst repairs were effected. This was an extremely difficult operation owing to the heavy seas which were running. After the attack Lieutnant Agar succeeded in effecting his escape under heavy fire from the land and the Destroyers. Sadsac
