Hi Tonclass, I take it that Sheffield must be expecting a V.I.P . By having her starboard cable being touched up, I must admit, it's a dodgy job while the ship is swinging around.... cylla

She's all dolled up for the 1977 Jubilee Review Cylla.

Some Black & White shots of HMS LIVERPOOL leaving the Pier Head of Liverpool for the last time before being deployed to the med this year (see post #31 for photos)

Nice photo's, the background looks quite dramatic in these shots, remember being there when I served aboard Hms Fife, we visited in 1975. Regards Alan

Thanks Alan The day was very overcast and it had been raining. The shots have been tonemapped in Photomatix and tweaked in Photoshop CS5 so they look a bit more dramatic. The first time I entered the Mersey was on HMS Rothesay (F107) in 77 when I was on her with the Sea Cadets. Little did I know then that it would be a common occurrence through later life on various vessels. There is just something about coming home on a ship and seeing the familiar sites of your home city as it appears on the horizon.
There is just something about coming home on a ship and seeing the familiar sites of your home city as it appears on the horizon.
I would think it is quite a proud moment, hailing from Barnsley I was never going to experience that, I did however get the freedom of the city of Leeds when aboard the Ark Royal, lots of family and friends come to watch the parade. Thanks a million for posting the photo's, good job with the photoshop additions to them. Regards Alan

Thanks again, here is a colour shot on the same day Regards Mike

Terrific photo, wonder how long we have to wait to see the likes of that again!:( Hope you don't mind me downloading a couple of those. Regards Alan

Be my guest. Any ships visits over here will be captured from now on and I will post the results on here Regards Mike

Thanks for reposting the missing pictures Mike - your help with this is greatly appreciated. :)

Hi AIZIctorini, Nice set of pics , these digital camera/phones are a godsend .In our day, you were lucky to loaf on the upper scupper with a camera. I gather in the third photo, the turret could only fire over the port side ,with negative shot mates in place ...can you remember who the other two vessels that were up fwd ...??? cylla

More of a light hearted look at life on a 42. Shots are taken during the ships BBQ on HMS Southampton when she was crossing the line coming back from the Falklands via Brasil in 2001. One of the chefs bet the supply officer that she could beat him in an arm wrestle. Even the Master at arms ("Max" Boyce) got into the swing of things by dressing up in a coppers helmet. Happy memories
Thanks again, here is a colour shot on the same day Regards Mike
great picture Mike realy shows her up with all the Background Ted

Few more of Southampton, one of your truly by the Sea Darts, one of 4Q mess, who picked the colour scheme for the curtains, and some of the lads before we docked back in Pompey after the Falklands ( The two RAF lads in the background hitched a ride back.

Shippers Nice album Cameraman (you must have thousands of pics tucked away), as for me the digital world does take the Mick, I load them onto my computer and forget about them for years. Cylla - The other Ships in the deployment were the Clyde and Black Rover. We did fire the Vickers gun that day, from the Starboard side. Shame to see Gloucesters at the end of her life, she really could move. Regs Al

One more for the collection, a really superb photograph of Hms Edinburgh. This is an original 10" x 8" official photo by the photographic dept, Hms Gannet. Sadly no dated attached to it, reduced in size to upload to the forum. The detail on the photo is crystal clear. Hope this is of interest to you all. Regards Alan

Great photos all. Liverpool is the last batch 2 T42, there are also the two batch 3 ships Edinburgh and York left.

Many thanks for putting my photo in the right place Terry :) & thank you Steve & Shinysheff. She flew off her Lynx as we left, but it was just too dull to get a decent photo of that!

Hi Everyone, Been quite busy for a while. This is a shot I did for the type 42 Association when HMS Liverpool left Liverpool for the last time this year. It's in the process of being turned into an oil painting which (hopefully) will be presented to Liverpool City council to be hung in the town hall. Will upload the rest over the coming weeks :) A spectacular photograph indeed. Just for the record I thought her last visit to Liverpool was in 2011??

A fine picture of a fine ship. Mel

Thanks for the comments. Everybody thought her last visit was 2011 but she did a farewell tour after coming back from Libya. She was docked at the pier head for a few days then crossed the Mersey to give a gun salute to Cammell Lairds before leaving. Scouse did a post about her on here somewhere as I was reading it the other day. Took about 140 shots of the last day so be prepared :D
A fine picture of a fine ship. Mel
Agreed. :)

5 more tonemapped versions of the final HMS Liverpool visit to Merseyside. The 4th shot is when she was firing a salute towards her birthplace Cammell Lairds.
