Some really great photo's there Dave. Particularly liked the one of Northumberland. Thanks very much for posting them. Regards Alan

Thank's for that Dave! Being born in North Shields and working on the Tyne for a few years I recognize most of the shots. The traffic on the Tyne has decreased steadily over the years which is a great shame. The last RN ship I saw on the Tyne before I moved was Invincible which you have a shot of.

Thanks for the comments Hencore if you would like some INVINCIBLE pix posted i'll be happy to oblige. Regards Dave

Dave, more pictures would be great! I was working at Lilley and Gillies at the time and when she went past the whole building was covered in shadow; was quite a sight.

Hencore, Here's a few more of INVINCIBLE for you taken 21 July 2005 from the High lights just above where you would have been working at the time ,I'm probably wrong but i think thats the last time she was in the river the occasion being when LEEDS CASTLE & INVINCIBLE started the Tyne leg of the Tall ships race. Regards Dave

Spot on! The first picture is especially good! I think you are right about it being the last time she was on the Tyne. I was going to mention it earlier as I thought the same. Good weather too which I distinctly remember was not the case during the Tall ships race. I assume you were there for that day aswell? We were standing on the roof at L&G's probably one of the best seats in the house! :)

Your right about the weather it was lousey i spent 7 hours on the Groyne at South Shields that day got soaked to the skin, typical Tyneside weather when anything is happening on the river. Regards Dave

Bunting tosser, were all entitiled to our opinions i suppose you could say that about most modern warships. Regards Dave

Dave Super pix of the sailing ships which have a lot more character than your warship of today - rather bland slab angle-sided lumps of metal!!! Mik

Thats True Mik, if only they were original old fashioned sailing ships not just modern day mock ups of the real thing, i think of all the ships taking part in the tall ships race there are only one or two that are more 10 years old. Regards Dave

I was in the RFA at the time and I paid off from Olna a couple of days later. I have copied it for my pics folder. Many thanks for that. Regards Alan
FEARLESS On Her last visit to Tyneside before decommissioning 11 September 1998. Regards Dave
I served in Fearless in 1995/96 with 2 x twin 30mm guns being fitted where the Seacat Launchers once were in 1995 during a dry dock period. They seem to have disappeared in the photo above. Can you tell me when they got taken off?

There were in existence some Piccies of HMS Kelly in various stages of construction, some with Earl Mountbatten putting in his twopennorth and some with the first crew muster, they may be in local newspaper files. My brother had copies but they disappeared. Kelly was a beautiful shape. I should love to know if anyone has copies, or would like to tackle the local newspapers!!! Edna
