V100 German Destroyer.

Posts 1 to 3

Hi All, anyone got any info on the German large destroyer V100, mainly around her battle damage in 1916 when she lost her bow to a torpedo hit in the Baltic. A recent search failed to find a photo in the German achives, and a very large damage diagram was too big for them to copy. I have seen a photo of her bow pointing skywards from an old German publication, but the photo is doubtful in that it stayed afloat for 5 minutes and drifted away before finally going under. In the photo is has men in a life boat beside it, and this is the doubt for me, pretty quick to get a boat out! DB.

The Info I have found indicates that the british submarine E18 hit V100 in the bows with a torpedo but she did not sink was towed to port and repaired and was finally broken up in 1921.

An unusual feature of V100 was that she had been designed to carry a floatplane on her stern. Regards...John
