HMS Aylmer K463 1943-1945

Posts 1 to 7

Hi There My father Edward James O'Grady served on the Aylmer(a Captain Class Frigate) from 1943 until she was returned to the US in late 1945. I have a lot of information about the 5th Escort Group, with which she served. If anyone has any information about the ships I would be pleased to share.

Hello First of all this is my first post and having trawled the internet for information to no avail I'm hoping someone on here can help. I'm after information around whether the crew on the Aylmer also participated in the arctic convoys at some stage? My granddad John Thomas Draper KX154085 was a stoker on this Captain class vessel. This was one of his main ships during WW2 Sadly he passed away several years ago and I know he went from Scotland to Archangle (Russia) Apologies for the title being somewhat misleading but I'm also interested to hear from any of his former crewmates or their surviving kin and their accounts of this event.

My Granddad John Thomas Draper (Jack)was also a stoker on this ship during the same time as your Father and I would be very interested in the information you have. Ivan Draper

Ivan I think you will find AYLMER only served with the 5th Escort Group. If you Google this it will come up with the Groups movements regards Gerry

Not Aylmer, but Kempthorne - a sister ship in the same Escort Group. Aylmer gets several mentions here. Jim
