MTB's - General Arrangements

Posts 1 to 8

Hi fellows, I am a new member, a modeler, with a lifelong interest in MTB's. My last model was of a British Power Boat Company 72'-6" MTB, commonly called the "Short." It has sparked my interest in what the below decks arrangements were like. I haven't been able to find any plans online and John Lambert, who was the greatest source of naval drawings for vessels, armaments, etc. has passed away. Any knowledge in the form of descriptions, sketches, drawings or other sources would be most welcome. Cheers!

You might see about picking up a copy of this (it has at least a cutaway drawing on the cover): British Motor Torpedo Boat 1939–45 Osprey New Vanguard #74 Not quite a MTB, but here is a plan of the 72' harbour defence motor launch (HDML) used by the Commonwealth in WW2:

You could try contacting Christian at MTB Hulls, a highly skilled and very helpful Gent who specialises in the construction of Model Ship hulls. He has a huge range of Coastal Force boats and associated knowledge. Website www.mtbhulls.co.uk Nige

'Allied Coastal Forces of WW2 vols 1&2' tons of drawings and info, but no British Power Boats. Jim

BPBC0466, Direct your enquiry to Historic Photographs and Ships Plans at the National Maritime Museum: I seem to recall that it holds the British Power Boats collection. GK

Yes I seem to recall thats good advice GK , thanks for looking in

Thanks Gents, I'll follow those leads. I do have one if not both of those books. Al Ross and John Lambert were supposed to be doing a third volume to their Allied Coastal Forces series and it would have had the BPBCO boats in it, but John died and my enquiries to Al went unanswered or hit a dead end. I don't remember which. Anyway, Thanks again.

Your more than welcome , wish we could help you more . I have seen several "Clips" on MTB's on "You Tube" but I assume you have already seen them , and also the DVD called " Devil Boat ", the saga of PT658 issued by the timeless Media Group ISBN hash0-7411-10830-0..........11301[[65333 which gives meany internal shots and the motors although not strictly what you want ...as a modeller it will point you in the right direction . There were also other threads on this forum which were very interesting on MTB / MGB used in the Mediterranean theatre of operations and indeed " BEE" who lives in Perth was once very active and might be able to help you in what your looking for ....give her a PM and keep us posted on how you get on please
