Matchstick modelling genius

Thought you might like to see this mans dedication to his hobby. Derek http://kingsbaynavyleague.org/documents/Matchstick%20Fleet.pdf

Know him well Derek. Brilliant modeller and such a modest man as well. Sandy.

Hi Derek , Like Sandy have followed him for years and admired his work . At exhibitions I have watched ex sailors scan for their ships and not many have been disappointed. Personally he had every ship I served on and it was an experience watching him work. Dave H

Why does this send the song Pictures Of Matchstick Men by Status Quo (1968) through my mind? :D

What do you want to bet he takes the match heads he doesn't use and disposes of them far, far away from where he builds these masterpieces... :D
Me too, must be others on here that, knit, crochet or build scale models of matchsticks out of matchsticks. Even cartooning! They are fantastic. But there is no way he could have done all these out of his attaché case, and stored them in his locker, or even if he was lucky enough a 'Caboosh' Certainly not 'Mess Deck Art' Jim

With you 100% on this one Jim. This is in no way representative of "Lower Deck Art". This happens to be ship modelling and should be posted on the Modelling Thread. Phillip Warren has never served on the Lower Deck so his excellent model skills should not be demeaned as examples of Lower Deck Art. They are works of art in their own right. I know Phillip Warren personally, as a model builder myself, and he is an extremely polite, gracious and humble gentleman. He does indeed transport SELECTIONS of his models to various shows in his Ford Focus and it is quite amazing to see what emerges from his humble Focus. It is impossible to transport his whole collection in his car. Please Mods, redirect this subject to the relevant thread. Sandy.

Thanks Sandy, sorted Jim

Thank you Jim, Phillip Warren has now got a pretty informed nucleus of followers on this excellent All-things-Naval site.:) Sandy.

Wow! That's a lot of skill and dedication.
