ARIADNE fast minelayer scrapped in 1965 but was laid up at Plymouth in reserve awaiting a buyer. Algerine class minesweeper ACUTE. The monitor ROBERTS. Battle class destroyer SLUYS Both the ACUTE and the ROBERTS were scrapped but the SLUYS ended her days under the Iranians.

Ceylon, all the pix you've posted 'on the other site with limited sizes' need to be re-scanned (if you own copies of them) !! Just enlarging them up from the original, distorts them no end. I've posted 2 of your pix, as the should look when scanned properly. Set your scanner to a minimum of 300dpi to get best results. Hope that helps in the future.

Thank you Rik for that info, will get all my pics out and spend a day rescanning, those 2 that you put up for me were clear, thanks age mate. Regards, Dave

Well said Rik. We have to keep the distorted shots out unless they are very rare. Ceylon - on another thread I have shown you how to delete pics if you need to. It would be good if you could go through yours and remove the poor ones. Thanks mate...

Deleting all poor quality pics that have annoyed my Moderator and others, no names ,no pack drill!!!

Dave - one other thing your Epson Scanner will definitely scan images larger mate. Are you using auto rather than the home or professional setting? Anyway -see my PM to you...

Some more ships in Reserve/Extended Readiness/awaiting sale etc.

Great photo`s Rik. TBF most of them look at the end of their lifespan with the exception of Invincible which looks really smart. What a waste! I expect one of the South American Navies will end up buying her in a couple of years... Also sad to see the Geordie Gunboat wasting away...

The MoD are still trying to sell LEEDS & DUMBARTON CASTLE, which are still in good condition. As for the others, BOXER & BRAVE are now at the bottom of the sea, and the rest, apart from INVINCIBLE are just scrap !! There is a move afoot to try and preserve RAMEHEAD though.

Came across this in my fathers belongings showing the ships up the creek at Portsmouth around the 50s, I can name some of them maybe members can name the ones that I don`t recognise. the 2 cruisers, PHOEBE & SIRUS Then we have the ABERCROMBIE & ARGONAUT. Destroyers ZEBRA, CRISPIN (sold later to Pakistan) OBEDIENT----S type sub SERAPH and finally we have the black contraption with the 4 cranes is a Tempoley collier built for rapid coaling.

Another photo of the Reserve ships taken around the mid 80s, you experts can sort this lot out.

Nice pic Ceylon but i think your way off with the date no way is it the 80s more likely mid 50s. The 2 cruisers could be LIVERPOOL & JAMAICA with gaggle of type15 frigate destroyer conversions the odd Battle Class and Loch Class and a handful of Algerines . Dave

Cruisers could also be BELFAST or SHEFFIELD

rik I would have a "gulper" that it is "sheffield "...as she came before BELFAST and that i cant see owt of any R.F.A there along side her..as was with the belfast........just my observation, cylla

I think your all wrong have a look at this picture. This is a near identical shot taken from a diferent angle showing the reserve fleet at Fountain Lake in 1957 .It states that the 2 cruisers are LIVERPOOL and possibly JAMAICA with an unknown Daring Class Destroyer and the Type 15 Frigate VERALUM alongside. Regards Dave.

I hope it's ok to post reserve fleet ships of the USN here! These pics were taken at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington(US) in late 1994. There are too many pictures to list every ship, so if you want to know what is what, let me know, I have identified almost every ship! Thanks!
A couple of Close ups
Is that perhaps the Hartland Point between the Belfast and the destroyer? I would love this confirmed or not as the 'Point' was an old ship and if this is her I would love to add the picture to my collection. Regards.

It may be Rame Head as she had that berth for a while.

I agree with Jim it could be RAME HEAD, HARTLAND POINT didn't have fairleads above her anchors like in the photograph, But then again it could be BERRY HEAD???? Regrads Dave

Ships of the 1950s in Reserve Portsmouth awaiting a buyer or the final destination to the breakers.
Some more ships in Reserve/Extended Readiness/awaiting sale etc.
These are fabulous pictures I must say! Does anyone have any pictures of the final days of H.M.S. Hartland Point please?

A splendid pic of Belfast, Hartland Point/Berry Head and Corunna in ADF guise. Specially so as Corunna's wheel is now gracing Belfast's emergency steering position in the Admiral's Flat above the steering motor. Guess the would be around 1960's first half? tim

Regards.
The Hartland Point was alongside the Belfast, definitely in Sept/Nov 1970. I was billeted on the Belfast when she was moved to No.3 basin; for her preparation to be used as the 'Museum ship.'

Does anyone have any pictures of Portland Harbour circa late 1950s showing what I believe were probably reserve fleet ships. As a kid, I went a couple of times on a day trips and took a boat trip around the harbour which seemed to be pretty crowded with ships. I remember a carrier being anchored in Weymouth Bay on one such trip, I think it was Victorious, very exciting to see. Regards.....Buster

Can any one answer this question ......Fountain lake Portsmouth Once H.M.S Bellerophon was decommissioned [reserved ships] Was that the end of any ships being berthed on the lake , and being sent on the trots instead. cylla

A rather grainy photo of the Reserve Fleet Hull Xmas 1945. Captain class Escort destroyers of which only K515 HMS Louis is identifiable. The caption on the back lists Louis,Lawson,Keats,Inglis,Mounsey,Berry,Cooke,Domett,Inman andGardiner. Regards Gerry

With due respect is there any chance that you possibly scanned this picture without selecting the descreening option as the cross-lines hatching/distortion would normally be eliminated using this?? If by any chance you have not done so then your scanner icon on your desktop should contain a descreening "tick-box". Re-scanning the picture using this option would greatly improve the picture clarity.... If you have already selected this option then please ignore this.
