Help Identifying a French Steam-Sail Ship Model

Posts 1 to 4

Hello, I recently purchased a model ship of what I believe to be a French steam-sail ship of the line or frigate, propelled by a screw. The French navy underwent a transformation from sail to steam (hybrids) from about 1850-1870, and I believe this model dates roughly from that period. However, to date I've been unable to identify the ship it was made for/of. Maybe it was a "pitch" to the French naval authorities that did not succeed? Unfortunately the name plate on the back of the model is quite unreadable/faded. It appears to have been about 7 or 8 letters long though. I've uploaded several images of the ship at the links below. Any help would be enormously appreciated, as I'd love to learn/research more about this interesting and intricate model. She seems to be a screw conversion of a 80/90 gun ship of the line about 1860. JEAN BART, SUFFREN? What do you make of the figurehead?

Just to remind everybody that all pictures and/or posts about model ships must go into our designated Modelling section. Also all pictures uploaded to the forum must be as thumbnails and not from hosting sites.

With respect to Post # 2, SUFFREN should not have been included.
