Models in 1:1250 Scale

Posts 1 to 10

Does anybody collect models in this scale? I am fascinated by these models since I was a young boy as they show much more details than one could expect and at the same time you can create a magnificent maritime scenery with them - like harbours, battle scenes etc. Fortunately or unfortunately, one has to overwork them as the metal is very flexible and when you purchase a model the masts and the barrels etc. are buckled and twisted. Also the painting is not satisfying. So it takes a lot of time to make them perfect what is a real good occasion to relax or doing something different than the daily routine. And they feed the child in me .... :)

Good Morning and welcome , can't say that I have seen any for years but yes I do recall seeing them when younger ......I would imagine they are "collectable " items now

I Googled it and stopped counting at 18 sites for this scale of models , so must be very much 'alive' Jim

Especially since they introduced better production methods that made the models much more accurate. They are available from www.atlaseditions.co.uk and you can get Hood and Bismarck for Ģ2.99 each --- what the others cost I am not sure because I received them as gifts. Dave H

A part of my 1/1250 scale British fleet by Neptun. I just wish I was a better photographer.:o

The only 1:1250 model I ever had was a plastic one of Bismark. I have two 1:1200 plastic models of USS Enterprise CV-6 that I have not yet done anything with.

My six and half year old grandson has an passion for RMS Titanic fuelled by a recent school project. As his partner in crime, I've given him a plastic model gift with two sizes on the understanding that I (very willingly) help him with all the hard stuff. His Mum and I thought the 1:1200 size would be the easiest because it was the small one. Big Mistake! I must have forgotten my father's warnings about the danger of getting involved with anything that was smaller than the accompanying instructions. It is kind of like doing keyhole surgery by candlelight. Fun though, in a slapdash way which would insult any true Naval Afcionado. Junior is a mind of information about the TITANIC and directs from the guidelines mostly, armed with multiple felt-tip pen drawings of the 'right' colour scheme. Main moment of shame; painting part of each of the 4 funnels (that are smaller than my little finger's nail) the wrong colour. Small, polite boy draws a very large picture of the correct colour scheme WITH an arrow pointing to the proper colour to be applied. Then patting my hand and saying "Never mind Nanna, this will help you." :o:o:o I wouldn't miss the experience for anything, being Junior's willing assistant. :D I have the strong suspicion that some time in the future the adult Junior will be counted in the ranks of the like of the WNSF modeller. Anyone who can make a ship in this scale has my abiding admiration. They must have the patience of a saint, the keen eyes of an eagle, the rock steady hands of a brain surgeon; and the intelligence of a rocket scientist to understand the model kit instructions. Not to mention; the encyclopedic knowledge of their chosen ship. And the advice, support and help from the WNSF band of willing experts. :) Missy
