NP friend. It is the only Z plan ship that the Germans truly built. I have debated on weather to make a chapter for it in my book about the Z plan ships. It would be time consuming chasing down the copy right material permission, unless I draw it in 3D like the other ships and only post it that way. I have a friend in Malta that wants to build the Graph, in 1/72 scale when he's finished the Scharnhorst in that scale. It takes him Years to build each project but it will be interesting if he starts working on it. Bare in mind this ship is made from cardboard. when you look at the pictures here of his work.

re post # 27: Duke of York had best tune her radars!!! Quite a project, to put it mildly! Nice........DFO :D:D

Please could members remember to post any pictures of models into our designated modelling section.

Sorry, Astral, I was just wanting to show the level of Paul's work and am looking forward to when he starts on Graf Zeplin in this scale. I will post any more model pics that doesn't have to do with my model project here. Smooth sailing as always. Haratio.

Thanks Haratio much appreciated.

here's a 3D shot of the Graph. Due to thanks from the ship model forum.

I wonder how the Kriegsmarine would have got on adapting to carrier operations from scratch when you consider we only gave up our carriers a few years ago and now have several hundred men training with the US and French Navies so we can hit the ground running ( even if we have no planes or Crowsnest radar) Geoff

I think that the Germans would have had a Crash course in Carrier operations, and I would underline the word CRASH. The ME 109 variant had crappy landing gear for landing on Carrier decks. The Stuka, and Torpedo plane would have been ok, but other than if the Japanese would have helped them out, they were basically learning from scratch. It took England, the U.S. and Japan a good ten years to get a relatively good feel for doing flight ops from carriers. Now if the Germans would have been learning this during a war they would have also been experiencing the condition of trial by fire so they would have to swim or sink, and I believe they would have figured things out quickly. With Herman Goering insisting on air force pilots flying the planes instead of the German Navy having their own pilots was also a problem, because it would be like having the Air Force in charge of the Navy and not knowing how to tactically use the Navy to counter an enemy force let alone run the logistics to pay all the sailors and feed them. So in short the Germans would have had their hands full if they would have gotten Graph Zeplin operational. On the other hand she could have protected the Bismarck from the air attacks that doomed her 9 days into her operational life. and If the Germans would have adopted a FW 190 variant for the carrier fighter, or received the 40 Zero's that Japan was willing to give them in 1938 in exchange for ME 109's then who knows, their could have been a few interesting battles where it might not have been so one sided in favor of the allies.

a few pics of the planes for Graph Zeplin.
