If anyone has any large pix of those 'Castles' not mentioned here' I would be grateful for a copy.

Ton class, Hi I have a couple of the Castle class you are missing and some better pics of the ones you've got. There are a few discrepancies in your photo's if I may be so bold as to correct you on them. Allington castle pic is actually Amberley castle, same penn No. as the one listed Amberley castle. Guilford castle you show as K488, that is actually HMCS ST.Thomas which later became Sandgate castle Penn No. K373. Rising castle you show is again Hmcs Arnprior which later became Rising castle but with a different pennant number. Sadly I think the allocator of these pennant numbers had obviously been on the tot's when issuing them, as they can be quite confusing. More to follow cheers Alan

2nd batch, Do you have the badges for these ship's? if not let me know I'll upload them, 21 in all. Alan

Thanks Alan - although I had those pictures, there were a couple that were larger and clearer. Appreciated.

Superb Alan. I've corrected the Allington Castle error, but regards your other query, the Pennant number is actually K489 not 488. It's just a bad pic.

Hi Rik.Thanks for the picture. The poor old girl looks in a rather War-weary state.I will never forget the line in the Film "The Cruel Sea",when Jack Hawkins first See's his new ship and say's "She looks like a block of Flats". Must have done after the flower class! Both classes being very hard worked escorts, must have been completely worn out at Wars end? Regards..Steve.

I agree they must have been some of the hardest worked ships ever. By the way 'The Cruel Sea' is one of my most favourite movies of all time.

Mine too Rik. :)

Alan and Rik Smashing pix, and I hope you don't mind but I've downloaded a few of those. Mik

No prob's Mik, thanks for having the courtesy to comment it is most appreciated. Regards Alan

Fantastic photo of Knaresborough Castle Rik. That photo has made a friend of mine very happy, he served on her and now lives in Knaresborough close to the castle. Do you have any idea of the year it was taken and do you mind if it is copied for him. Can you also tell me when Rising Castle was renamed as Arnprior. Thanks Dave

Thanks Dave
Can't give you a date for the pic, but by all means send him a copy. 'ARNPRIOR' must have had her name changed prior to launch in 1944 (or at the end of the war in '45) as she was sold in 1946 at the 'MONTEVIDEO' to Uruguay.

Dave & Rik, Arnprior was laid down as Hms Rising Castle, transferred to the RCN and commissioned in Belfast 8th June 1944. She paid-off at Halifax, Canada on 14th March 1946 and as mentioned sold to Uraguay later that year. She remained in service in their Navy until 1975. Regards Alan

Rik, apologies I forgot to upload the photo. Here she is as Hmcs Arnprior with pennant number K494. Same piccy as yours I think but a little bit clearer. Regards Alan

Regards Alan
Cheers Alan. Much better. At least we can say she had a name-change prior to launching when she was transferred to the RCN.

Rik, I'll have a look through some of the photo's I've got for those that were transferred and see if I can hunt them out for you. Regards Alan

Sorry Alan - I have just noticed you have posted this picture in an earlier post here but you labelled it Walmer Castle when in fact it was taken in 1944 when in the RCN.

Terry, probably got mixed up with pennant numbers as they all changed so the earlier post was incorrect. There aren't many photo's of them prior to commissioning into the RCN so quite a few people show them with their RCN pennants but refer to them as RN ships......incorrectly of course. But, well spotted Terry I certainly hadn't noticed it. Regards Alan

Thanks for that set of pix Alan. I had one or two but nothing of the size you've posted.

I dont know if anybody has this shot of Tintagel Castle which is at a great angle.

Here's a fine shot of the elusive Hms Hurst Castle K416 to add to the thread. Can't say anyone has posted a photo of this ship before, so I was delighted to have recently added this one to my collection. Regards ALAN
