USS Walker DD-163

Posts 1 to 6

I've got a few requests. Could someone find a picture of the old USS Walker (DD-163), The USS Milwaukee (The one that found the Milwaukee Deep), and the carferry SS Badger, in C&O livery? (I'm building a model of her from scratch for a layout I'm planning. It will be the focal point. I plan to have a warship moored next to her.

Thank you! I have the blueprints of the Walker from the book. Was the Milwaukee part of the Great White Fleet? I ask because of her coloring in the picture.
Hi Dave, Hope these may be of help to you. tomparry
I think you want USS Milwaukee (CL-5), which found the Milwaukee Deep (the deepest point in the Atlantic Ocean) off Puerto Rico in 1939. The photo I think is the old USS Milwaukee (C-21) which was wrecked in 1917 (and no, she was not part of the Great White Fleet). The pictured SS Badger was built in 1953, while USS Walker (DD-163) was scuttled in 1941, and USS Milwaukee (CL-5) was scrapped in 1949; was it an earlier ferry called Badger you had in mind?

Nope. That is the one! she is currently the ONLY coal fired vessel on the Great Lakes.
