RN Destroyers: Scott Class

Posts 1 to 17

I'd like to see more of the above destroyers, especially! I feel they are among the best-looking small ships produced during the Great War. ;)

The Scott Class just scrape into this category as they were all, just, in service before 1920. 1 Bruce 2 Campbell 3 Douglas 4 MacKay 5 Malcolm 6 Montrose 7 Stuart

Jim, Thanks for "seeding" this thread here.

Pleased to help. I only have one photo of Scott, which is very poor, so hope someone can come up with a better one for the thread. Jim

I understand - that is the only one I have as well! :o

The following link has 5 good shots of HMAS Stuart and 2 line drawings which should be of interest. Cheers Chris http://www.navy.gov.au/hmas-stuart-i

Indeed, they are! The line drawings, alone are worth the visit... Thanks!

Terry; Unless I am mistaken, that photo of Malcolm shows her carrying a sizeable number of troops aboard. As her radar and hull scheme do not "fit" the timeframe of Dunkirk, would you have any idea as to the date and/or circumstances evident from that image? Thanks in advance, Dan

Sorry Dan. That particular picture is not from one of my postcards so I have no further information other than its caption which rather "helpfully" said "WW2" !!

Hi Dan, I think the troops are US Rangers (their helmets might confirm that). I have a photo of Malcolm with the caption - leaving HMS Sheffield with US Troops for Algiers Harbour. This link probably gives the date - 7 November 1942 Jim

@ Terry: Ha! I understand that one :D @Jim: I failed to consider US troops, but now that I look closely at the foredeck and can make out their helmets' shapes, that should have been my first clue... Thank you for your censored photo, as well--I can "replace" the missing Huff-duff aerial at some future point, but the view is spectacular and I really should study the North African/US aspect of the Med war in more detail. Your responses are both appreciated! Dan

A nice, clear shot of HMS Campbell;
