Good pics Rik although the third one [in fact all three] are of Darks Aggressor, Avenger and Biter.

Hi Rik.Very good photos.I notice in pic#1 the skipper of the inboard boat appears to be passing some kind of signal by hand? Regards Steve.

Great pics Rik, and well observed Steve. Looks like he is telling them that they all owe him a tot as he has just won the race:D Jim

great pictures always been a fan of fast attack boats, must be the small ships sailor in me

Great pictures thanks! love the Brave boats especially. Little h

Dave & Rik, Great pictures. Yes the Braves were splendid boats and there is an excellent painting of them or the Darks visiting the Pool of London I seem to remember. Here is one of Scimitar.

Thanks Invinicible. On its way to be downloaded and printed off as of now.Regards Steve.

Here's a few more of the 'Dark' class boats Dark Clipper P1109 Dark Hunter P1116 Dark Killer P1111 Dark Rover P1107 Regards Alan

And here's another shot of Hms Scimitar from a lower angle than the last great photo posted by Invincible. Regards Alan

Alan, good pic ... but .... you have presented me another query:) Re; the crossed scimiters the handle of one appears over the covered RIB? whilst the other handle dissappears behind same!!! Little h

I don't think the lighter colored thing on the RIB is the handle. I'm not sure what it is, but handle it is not.

Little h, just a trick of the light, it is not an extension of the badge. Regards Alan

Singaporean FPB of the 70s. They pack quite a punch.

Great, now look what OUZBEKISTAN has to offer............. The front turret is normally fitted to a BMP 2 MICV "Land locked but not c_ _k knocked"
Attachments :

re pic #2 sorry;):) but I was drawn to thinking/posting the following:- Dr. Beeching notwithstanding eh! or didn't the crew know they must not go off the rails or this is what happens when you railroad someone or strange! thought we should be in the water for a tilt test Little h

Pic #2 raises some interesting questions. It can be seen that the boat is just about to be lifted as the strops/cable are taut, so has she just been refitted and ready to be lifted into the water or perhaps onto a merchant ship? Or, following little h's reasoning are they going to lift her up so they can fit the railway wheels underneath - just imagine that thing hurtling around the London Underground, the mind boggles at the thought!!!!!!! Perhaps not, can't carry very many passengers so not really economically viable!!! Mik

OUZEBEKISTAN is a little land locked, so unlikely the craft will be installed on a merchant ship........ Re pic 2 the rear turret is normally fitted to a BTR 60 PB and has a 14,5mm and a 7,62. The forward turret has a quick firing 30mm gun which can rip an armoured vehicle open like a tin can...........................:)

The Two Ghanaian Fast Attack craft DZATA and YOGAGA on No2 Slip at Swan Hunters on the Tyne for overhaul in 1989. Regards Dave

Thanks to Sandy (again) for the good shots of the Singapore Navy FAC's; of which I'm seeking information :) http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6801 Bill
A selection of Fast Patrol Boats Dave
Great pics of the Darks. I served in Gladiator between 67 and 70. Brilliant job. Also manages frequent spells in Brave Borderer and Brave Swordsman. Best job I ever Had. Baz Johnson.

Great pics... Mate of mine was chief of the boat on Scimitar late '70's & for the time in HK Scimitar was refitted in Germany 2006 & had diesels fitted instead of Gt's. Now in private hands I believe.

My mistake!... Scimitar as per a previous post is now a floating restaurant (shame!) Turkey I believe? It is Sabre that has been refitted in Germany Follow link to some photos of the work carried out. As per a question also previously raised these boats (Scimitar, Sabre & Cutlass) were origionally powered by two Proteus gas turbines & had the ability to have a third fitted should the need arise. http://www.bmpt.org.uk/boats%20for%20sale/Ex%20british%20Fast%20Vessel.pdf

Just rediscovered this old gallery again it is a shame that it seems to have fallen into disuse! I will try and breathe some life into it with the hope that other members will be able to join in!! Firstly a strange old photograph I have of P1012 Brave Swordsman with a couple of Ton Class minesweepers - nothing on the back but I would guess it was taken sometime in the 1970s?? Apologies for the indifferent colour quality - sign of the times I`m afraid!!

Next a great photo-postcard showing Sabre, Cutlass and Scimitar, followed by two shots of Scimitar.

A striking colour picture of Cutlass....

We call it Fast Patrol Craft (FPC), the RMNs work horse from Confrontation days till they were transferred to Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA- which is equivalent to the Coast Guard) recently. 34 of these were ordered from Vosper Ltd Portsmouth , some sail back to Malaysia while a few were piggybacked on ships. Left to right. KD SRI JOHOR, KD KRIS and KD SRI TRENGGANU.

Ours were KNS Simba [Lion] KNS Chui [Cheetah] KNS Ndovu [Elephant] Nice looking ships and great workhorses as you say. Dave H

I believe Panama is also using the same type of patrol craft but instead of Bofors, they are fitted with Oerlikon. Perhaps Terry may be able to shed some light into this. Saudara Teuchter, Terima kasih atas komen saudara. Your Bahasa Malaysia is good. Dimana saudara belajar bertutur( where did you learn it). Best regards. Hanef
Sorry Hanef but I dont know anything about the Panama Navy patrol boats. :o:confused:
Terry, I managed to get some information about the Panamanian Navy Patrol Crafts from Janes Fighting Ships. Panama has two such Patrol Crafts namely : 'Panquiaco launched on 22 July 1970, Ligia Elena on 25 August 1970. Hull of welded mild steel and upperworks of welded or buck-bolted aluminium alloy. Vosper fin stabiliser equipment. P 302 was sunk in December 1989, but subsequently recovered. Both vessels had major repairs in the Coco Solo shipyard from September 1992. This included new engines, a new radar and replacement guns. Both craft refitted at Astillero Bayano in 2009. Pacific Flotilla. Similar craft in service in Malaysia'. Photo of LIGEA ELENA. Photo credits Janes Fighting Ships. Kind regards. Hanef

Glad to see that they have both recently been refitted and remain in service. :)

I visited Surabaya and Malang last March. Its a nice place to visit. In your next visit to Australia and New Zealand plan for a stopover in Kuala Lumpur so that we can meet. I am not very familiar with the craft and the manufacturer in Penang, but I know Malaysian Navy have six so called Fast Attack Craft Gun( FAC G ) manufactured under licence by Hong Leong Lurssen Butterworth. The six Crafts were built from 1996 /97 and still in service with the RMN. Photo of KD PAUS attached.

Apparently in the early 1950's Brooke Marine supplied three motor launches used for training purposes. They were designated Mark Ship VII. I found out this information from an advert that I enclose here dated 1955. I love the little poem immediately below the picture....

Useless bit of information Terry, I am actually distantly (VERY distantly) related to the "Dowsett Group" that owned Brooke Marine. Cousins so far removed as to be nigh out of sight! :D

Something I came across today, did anyone know there was a 20 minute film shot on Brave Swordsman in 1961 which was narrated by Eamon Andrews? Now how we get a copy of it? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1619831/

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1619831/
The IWM has it, see excerpt and link below:- ------------------------------------------------------------ Object description Short documentary showing the motor torpedo boat HMS Brave Swordsman, "one of the most powerful ships in the Navy", on a training exercise. . Full description Scotland (HMS Dolphin ?), early morning: the 17 ratings and 3 officers of motor torpedo boat HMS Brave Swordsman awake, have breakfast and prepare for the day. Brave Swordsman is in the middle of high speed trials. The ship's armament: 40mm Bofors gun and 21-inch torpedoes. The ship's engines (10,000 HP turbines) are started and she gets underway. (Reel 2) She heads to sea at speed as narrator relates technical information. Navigational officers plot course, captain steers. The "target" appears and the torpedo is prepared and fired, the camera following the "sinister torpedo track". After a second firing, a "success" signal is received. Final praise for Brave Swordsman, "one of the most spectacular craft afloat - the fastest craft in the world". . Physical description 35mm _____________________________________________________ http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/1060021665 Little h

Thanks, now to see how much the IWM wants for a copy.:(

Received my DVD from the IWM which cost 25 pounds including postage to Oz. Quite a few things on the DVD as well as the Braves including colour footage on board a commando carrier. The Vosper made film is good and in colour but the sound track is non existent. Nice shots on board, underway, creeping slowly into harbour and some cutaway models to show the internal layout of them. Worth the money for the colour shots alone.
