Nikki's CVE-16

Posts 1 to 17

Hey Guys, Sorry for not being on here in a long time! I'm on the first ship kits i got from a friends, Might be going back to Ohio For a friend to get started for me!!! She is the USS NASSAU CVE-16. But there are a few thing my Friends say, and i was wondering if any of you know what the CVE meant!! Nikki

Hi Nikki, welcome back to the forum. I hope you are well. I'm afraid that I don't know the what the acronym CVE stands for, but I'm sure that one of our cousins from your side of the pond will explain in due course.;) Good luck with your build. A colleague and I are currently building an Aircraft Carrier, HMS OCEAN, and it's blogged on this modelling forum. Regards, Sandy.

Hi Nikki CV is the USN designation for an Aircraft carrier. The E stands for escort, So a CVE is an escort carrier. If it's your first kit, just following the instructions and you'll be fine. You only need a small craft knife to cut the part off the sprue and maybe a womans nailboard to sand down any bits. If you're painting it, get a big brish for the big areas and a little one for the fine bits. It's your kit so you do what you want with it.

guys, I have a friend who is going to build her for me!!! So, I would have her til the 2014 season :D! But I also I a 96scale ship as well, She's the USS Artemis AKA 21, but like the carrier, they both have a gun.. Nikki

Hi, Nikki -- good to hear from you again. (Sorry I've been remiss in staying in touch!) The CVE designation is, as stated, for escort carriers. These ships were all built from existing merchant vessels designs of one kind or another, including tanker hulls. Because they were not armored warships or particularly fast, the navy crews often joked that they designation stood for "Combustible, Vulnerable, and Expendable". There was an element of truth in the matter as any reading of the loss of escort carriers in WWII will show. PM me if you need any information on Nassau in particular. There are two books on escort carriers serving in WWII, both by the late William T. Y'Blood -- one on Atlantic operations and one on Pacific operations. Good luck with your build!

Hey Guys, Here is how I'm going to paint here!! let me know what you thing ok! Its in Black and white so i was hoping someone can get me an idea on what they colors are ok! this is what i was talking about :D "Combustible, Vulnerable, and Expendable.. here is the Album for her: http://s575.photobucket.com/albums/ss192/NASAAN101/Bogue%20class%20carrier/ Nikki

Hi Nikki The paint scheme you have found looks fine. But why don't you build it yourself? ;)

The "Nasty Maru" has her own web site. try this... www.ussnassaucve16.com Don earlier mentioned a brilliant book on the CVE Pacific ops in WW2. The Little Giants by William T. Y'Blood, U.S. Escort carriers Against Japan. It is the only factual WW2 US navy book i have ever purchased. A splendid read by this respected, alas, now deceased, author.

Guys, With me, she'll be know as little Princess :) Nikki

Nikki, I have a navy color scheme chart somewhere -- when I locate it, I'll email it to you. It covers all the grays, blues and blacks used by WWII US navy and is as close as you're going to get to the actual colors. Take care, dear,

Hey Don, that would be a great help!! There the two i'm looking at doing, let me know what you thing ok!! Nikki
