Excellent photos Terry. Here's one I posted to a previous thread. John

As usual Terry an excellent collection (have you ever thought of turning the sepia ones into B/W to make them all uniform?) The one pic is definately the Nelson. Here are a couple you may not already have. Bob.

Re your query PM sent Bob

Thanks all you shipmates. It is absolutely fantastic the way you have responded with either appreciative comments or great examples of your own. I have never known a thread grow so fast! Bob - If you wish to work your box of tricks on the sepia ones - that is fine. I know a lot of people do like to have a uniformity of black and white rather than all the sepia tones so I feel sure it would be appreciated. I have always liked sepia tones personally - but I would agree that ships are not best shown like that

Rik, who are the Foc'sle party on the Caroline?

Happy to help, Terry. Here are some more. 1. DEVONSHIRE, 2. FIFE, 3. GLAMORGAN, 4. DECOY as FERRE

Seeing all these old 4,5s again brings back a lot of memories. On PHOEBE we lost our Jimmy after he'd gone up onto the focsle to secure the jack staff after we ran into a spot of roughers off Portland when a goffer came over the bows picked him up and dropped onto the 4.5 made a right old mess of him lost his eye.The old saying that you should never turn your back on sea was proved correct that day alright. Regards Dave

Rik, I think we should explain to the non-seafarers that the apparatus on the Foc'sle of HMS Whitehall are experimental depth charge throwers produced in 1940 by Vosper Thornycroft at Woolston with the assistance of the Admiralty Mining Establishment. Bob.

RIK, on page 28 ,there is attachment ,which i opened and there was no name ,was it of a "C" class destoryer ? ,i am a bit rusty on all those class,s. CYLLA

Don't quite know what happened there ? The pic is of HMS SCORPION. one of the Battle Class. Rik

Many thanks to all those who have uploaded here, some really fantastic pictures. One of my hobbies is trying to recognise the fire-control equipment on the pre-Queen Elizabeth dreadnoughts, so there's been some really interesting stuff on! Cheers, Harley

With that interest as well as your Flag officer research you must be kept quite busy Simon!

Hello, A bit more of Foredecks and Foreguns. Regards Miro
Attachments :

Hello, Rear guns also could look impressive. Have you got more like this? Miro PS It isn't the pic from Hochseeflotte surrender in Nowember 1918:D Just exercices:)

Guys, what a GREAT selection of photos! Terry, don’t mean to be picky but………..are you sure that the 6th photo across in your very first post in this thread is Exeter? I am no expert but I don’t think it is Exeter as her bridge structure does not have those lower open ‘wings’. Could it be York? Kevin

I agree with Kevin that the 6th photo across in Terry's very first post in this thread is not Exeter; however, I think it's a London class cruiser - YORK's bridge was narrower and higher; the 3 sub-classes of County class ships each had a different style of bridge, and the overhanging section above the bridge windows was only found on the Londons. The badge on the screen above the windows doesn't appear to be the ship's badge of any of the four; more like a "Cock o' the Fleet" - awarded to the winning ship after a Fleet regatta.

Rik, On your post of the 30.3.08 you state that picture 2 is Wildgoose. I think that you will find however it is Solebay. Cheers ,Stan.

Could be right about the Exeter photo chaps - trying to locate the original - will come back when I do!

Its about time I put an updated selection of these pictures here...
Attachments :

As well as these...
Attachments :

I think this is an excellent picture of the rear guns on HMS Queen Elizabeth. Regards....John
Attachments :

I agree John it is good. IMO it is only the size that prevents it being brilliant.

I appreciate that some of these move away from just Foreward guns but I thought they might be of interest as they just about cover the whole spectrum! Unfortunately a few of these are not quite as large as I would normally upload but they are interesting nevertheless.

And a few more...

Terry, I just want to say how marvellous these pictures are. The gun crew on Leviathon 1918 look so modern, it could be today's young sailors. And that cut away of the 16inch gun is absolutely fascinating. Thanks for these....any the many others. regards Vivian

Terry, Great set of pix mate, The shot you posted of CARYSFORT any idea where you got it from ? Cheers Dave

Thanks Viv and thanks Dave - appreciated.

Hello, Some not-necessary-Foredecks and Foreguns but nice (I hope) Regards Miro
