Picture Saving

Posts 1 to 5

I have asked this question before in one of the threads but as usual I have forgotten where( blame it on old age!!)--the question was: How do you save your pictures and documents?--I made the mistake of transferring them onto disc but found that although I saved the pictures I had lost the title to them, finished up with a 100+ ship pictures and no names, tried all ways to retrieve them but to no avail, some one suggested using "Sandisk cruser usb 2.0 flash drive" not knowing what this is and how to use it or whether it will retain the names I am awaiting more advice before going further so my shipmates here on WNSF I am looking for advice on this subject and as someone once here on the site called me "tight Git!" I am not looking to spend a great deal of cash,Free advice is wanted please.:cool::D:D

Dave - all I ever do is store all my ship pictures in various different folders for nations and types of warship and use a strightforward system such as HMS VANGUARD-1-1945-1960 and then add the date/location of the photo if known such as HMS VANGUARD-12-1945-1960-50-POMPEY, etc. If I make a disc of them that information goes with the pictures. Well it did the last time I made a disc! The Sandisk portable drive thingy you mentioned is a portable little storage devise that you plug in your computer down load your pics on to it then plug it in your mates computer. You can buy them quite cheaply - for instance I have seen one with a very large 32g capacity for as little as £13. That is enough for thousands of pictures with titles. See below for details. http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&channel=rcs&q=Sandisk+cruzer+usb+2.0+flash+drive%22&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=14157164829579360808&sa=X&ei=CIuKUOTNM6Ke0QW_14HoBA&ved=0CE0Q8wIwBA :) This device will definitely store your pictures and titles - I personally use external portable hard drives to back up all mine and the Sandisk is in effect a small version of them.

Thanks Terry for your advice but the disc transfer did`nt include the name of the ship when I done it and I am wary of doing it again but the info that you have given on the Sandisk seems a better way of doing it so I might spend a bit of my pocket money:D:D and purchase one---they say that Scotsmen are tight where money is concerned and as I was born in Scotland and lived there for 3 years maybe its rubbed off in me!!!!!:)---but there again if I transfer some of the photo that are not so important and a document or two onto a disc it does`nt not necessary mean that they are deleted from my computer until I delete them, so I will try again and give it a try otherwise I may take the other option, the Sandisc Cruzer, thanks again mate. Just this minute purchased one from E bay for £13:60 free p&p.

Some of my photo file names are lengthy on my hard drive. In the past, while transferring files to CD, I have noticed that the file names have been drastically shortened, to possibly 55 characters. I believe this is due to different formats between hard discs and floppys/CD's. Jim

Just run some photos all named, thro` the computer and transferred them to a disc then I replayed them on the tv recorder these showed up with all the titles but when I transferred the pictures back into the computer the titles were deleted, this idea will not be much good if I have to get a new set and reload the disc, only way would be to write down each picture when the disc is in the recorder to tv.--a long job if you have quite a lot of photos, have`nt tried it with the documents yet----trial and error!!!!!
