For the last two days I have been unable to open "New Posts" yet I am able to get on everything else on the forum. Can anyone tell me why and how to put it right. I've logged out and back in but that makes no difference.
For the last two days I have been unable to open "New Posts" yet I am able to get on everything else on the forum. Can anyone tell me why and how to put it right. I've logged out and back in but that makes no difference.
Have a look-see at this thread for some solutions, all same-same a few of us had recently :- http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11704 Hope it helps Little h

Having now tried everything that everyone said. I am still unable to view new posts. My only option now I think is to ask a Moderator to completely delete me from the forum and I will re-register and see if that works!

Sheldon - I am exactly in the same boat as you and after trying everything cannot now access new posts. It is damn annoying I agree but I dont think re-registering will help in anyway. :(

That happened to me for a few days, but it soon got back to normal again.

Like my namesake (Bunts) am on XP and in supposedly slow Broadband Norfolk but never had any probs with New Posts which always pops up instantly. dsl

Just for info I have never had a problem with New Posts using OSX Lion on My Mac. Steve
Sheldon - I am exactly in the same boat as you and after trying everything cannot now access new posts. It is damn annoying I agree but I dont think re-registering will help in anyway. :(
Just thought I would add that I am using Vista. To make matters worse I also am unable to access posts or threads made by members either! As a moderator I really need to be able to use these as well as new posts and in all honesty I am very fed up with my current situation. :( On another thread some members have made a few suggestions to remedy my problem - I have tried some with no improvement and when I get time I will try the others. I am at a loss why such a well used combination like Vista and IE9 will not work properly here when they seem to on a couple of other forums I still look at every now and then.:confused:

I've now changed a setting which may fix this. If it is not working for you, please log out and back in again, then check again.

I seem to have the opposite problem. When I logged on today I got 220 new posts dating back to 4th March! I am using IE9 and Windows 7 starter on this computer at the moment.

Hi All I seem to have a similar problem. New posts don't appear to be registering but can be accessed by using the search facility which then throws up 20 pages of allegedly new posts. Mitch Hinde:eek::confused::mad:

Like Bill I also got 200 or so posts this morning, and things happened very slowly,it is O.K. now though. Peter.

There is another problem with new posts. I am not seeing any thread I have previously looked at, despite posting in it, but they are all there with "Todays Posts".

Having changed a setting, the first time any user logs in after this, they will see all posts as 'new' posts. This should be rectified the next time the user logs in.

I am stll getting pages of posts which I have not read but not the ones I have recently commented on. I have logged out and back in again but it still persists.

All is still not well me-thinks!!! I compiled a new post on the 'Spent Rounds' thread and clicked on Submit Reply. I waited a moment and checked New Posts - my post did not appear! I then checked on Todays Posts on the Quick Links drop down - my new post did not appear! However; when I went in via WNSF and opened Other Naval Topics I could see my new post was there posted at 1527hrs. So I opened Delete browsing history options - and I Deleted Temporary Internet Files. On completion of the deleting process; I checked New Posts - my new post did not appear! So, I checked on Todays Posts on the Quick Links drop down - only then did my new post appear!!! Little h
I'm getting a similar problem, and I'm using OSX Lion on an iMAC. Steve
I think I have fixed it on my computer. I logged off completely and then logged on again. I had to get a new password as I had forgotten mine. Now I'm back on line again the problem seems to have gone. It may be because I was using a previous subscription e-mail to get back in to the forum. I kept one undeleted and used the top blue highlighted link to reopen the forum when I wanted to get back on. Steve

I logged out, closed my browser firefox and logged back in again and the problem persists.
I logged out, closed my browser firefox and logged back in again and the problem persists.
Belay my last - so does mine. Steve

Just seen this thread about the problems with New Posts, I was thinking that I'd broken my laptop somehow until then. I am having pretty much the same problems that Little h and Linton describe with the New Posts link. However going via Quick Links, Today's Posts Posts From Last Day), my posts do appear much as they did previous to the changes. I am using Windows 9 Home Premium with EI9. Logging in and out makes no difference. The same thing happens with Firefox. Using Crap Cleaner to clear down cookies, temporary internet files and history makes no difference. Ditto same in EI9's Tools, Internet Options. Have run out of time, brain and answers, so going to ignore the New Posts link and use Quick Links, Today's Posts, and continue to hope that the clever IT savvy folk come up with a solution. Missy

Here is a link to the guidance I followed when updating the system following the complaints about new posts not showing up. https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-306567.html You should click the 'Mark Forums Read' button now and when you come back the new posts should be available. (You will of course lose any new posts currently highlighted, but this will only happen once.) Without this, the system cannot reset itself to work with the new system, although it should catch up eventually due to other settings which kick in after long periods of inactivity.

Thank you kc, followed your kind advice. Apologies for being an IT dinosaur.:o Missy

Kc - just to let you know that despite logging out and in again I still am unable to access new posts. Vista+IE9.
Kc - just to let you know that despite logging out and in again I still am unable to access new posts. Vista+IE9.
Ditto Terry - Windows XP:confused:

All I seem to get is the same message everytime.... "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms"

Tis a strange world. I have had no problems at all with new posts. Firefox 3.6.18 and Windows7. Frank

Hi All Clicked the Mark Forums Read as advised, seems to have worked so far. Mitch Hinde

Hi All No it hasn't b......s:confused: Mitch Hinde

This site is still having problems. I have been away for a day and I have come back to 218 topics with messages I have not read ,but having checked one of them the last entry is one of my posts so I must have read it!

Why have I started getting 9 pages of New Posts, going back five or six days, with the above message after the latest new posts? Tony
Why have I started getting 9 pages of New Posts, going back five or six days, with the above message after the latest new posts? Tony
Tony, There seems to be some gremlins in the system at the moment which I am sure kc will be looking into. Members are getting all sorts of weirdes - you may have noticed if you reply to a post and then select "NEW POSTS" your post is not there. I am finding that and my posts don't seem to appear until the following day, and then you have five/six pages of posts. Hope this makes sense because I won't see it until much later and won't see if you reply. Dave H

I have found the above , and to find my post , i have had to click onto "quick links" for todays post,s .New post,s dont work NO MORE . cylla
I have found the above , and to find my post , i have had to click onto "quick links" for todays post,s .New post,s dont work NO MORE . cylla
Yep cylla mate all same same here, I have been using that method as a nice n easy way around current probs Little h
Yep cylla mate all same same here, I have been using that method as a nice n easy way around current probs Little h
Cylla 'n harry - me too. Dave H

Count me in as another with this problem. Could it be all the computer spammers and viruses that are attacking the forums ? Another forum that I frequent has been down for nearly a week after a crash. I just wish that we could bottle all the viruses and spam's and shove them up the a*ses of the malevolent nerd's that propagate the web. Regards Richard
I have found the above , and to find my post , i have had to click onto "quick links" for todays post,s .New post,s dont work NO MORE . cylla
Ditto here, tried kc's suggestion of "Mark Forum Read" to reset the system after the changes. That only clears the pages of posts back to the last time I did that. So I've admitted defeat and now only use Quick Links, Todays Post. Missy

Well! at least I am not the only one. Tony
Yep cylla mate all same same here, I have been using that method as a nice n easy way around current probs Little h
Using this along with a few tips Bill [emason] kindly suggested to me via PM I seem to be getting new posts most of the time! :o I have merged this thread with another recently started covering the same subject....

Me too!
Me too!
I'm the same. Once I look at a thread in "New Posts" it disappears from there, and I can only re-access it via "Today's Posts". Previously all posts in "New Posts" first appeared in bold type, then reverted to regular type once viewed. Steve

Today I am back to being unable to get either New Posts or Today's posts. :(

I have found some thing most interesting ... click NEW POST from 13.33 to 14.32 there were 5 post,s click on to TO DAYS POST two of the post,s i read were deleted. weird.. cylla If i could copy and paste the pages ,i would ...

Also suffering the same problem. No New posts or Todays posts - Nothing.:confused:
Could it be all the computer spammers and viruses that are attacking the forums ?
No. It's not. It's more likely to have been the latest round of automatic updates send out by microsoft update and internet explorer 9. I've tried changing a few settings and following instructions for how to fix this bug, but to no avail it seems. Can anyone who is having issues with this please go to the bottom of the index page of the forums and click the big button that says ' Mark Forums Read '. This should at least try to reset things to the way they should be. Please do this after you have finished reading new posts etc, (i.e. on your way out!) as this data will be lost, and you will not be able to tell easily which threads have new posts. Hopefully then when you log on again you should get a correct list of new posts. However, this seems to have failed for others who have done it, so there is no certainty of success.

Binned IE9 and gone back to IE8. Everything now working properly. To get rid of IE9 properly read below. To uninstall Internet Explorer The following instructions apply to both Windows 7 and Windows Vista. 1.Click the Start button , type Programs and Features in the search box, and then click View installed updates in the left pane. 2.Under Uninstall an update, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section. 3.Right-click Windows Internet Explorer 9, click Uninstall, and then, when prompted, click Yes. 4.Click one of the following: Restart now (to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 9 and restore the previous version of Internet Explorer). Note After you uninstall Internet Explorer 9, the previously installed version of Internet Explorer will be available on your PC. It isn't necessary to reinstall.

Update : It seems that after some new updates to various programmes (e.g. internet explorer 9) our forum can no longer take note of threads our users have already viewed in the way it used to. However, there has always been another option to carry out this function manually. Performing this task *should* carry over any unread posts into the 'new posts' menu when you next visit the forum. The way to do this is to 'mark forums as read'. If you look at the top of the page you are reading now, you will see a line of links which display the location of this thread (i.e. World Naval Ships Forums > New Members > Frequently Asked Questions > New Posts). The forum you are in is 'New Members' in this case. By clicking on that link, you will be taken to the front page of the New Members forum. Here, you can click the 'forum tools' menu on the right of the screen near the top, and choose 'Mark this Forum Read'. This will set all threads in this forum to read. You can do this for any forum. As I've mentioned before, there is a button at the bottom of the home page of the forum to 'Mark All Forums Read'. This means there is no need to visit each section of the forum and mark it as read. If you are not interested in most of the sections, just click this button before you leave the site and it will mark everything as read, meaning you should be correctly alerted to new posts next time you visit. This is working for me, although I have not checked the 'New Posts' menu to verify it. (I rely instead on the orange 'New post' icons at the left side of the forums, and can verify that for me, these are working correctly. Since these form the same basis as the 'new posts' menu, I assume it is working too.) Let me know if this is working or if you continue to have problems with this method.

Last night I posted some pictures, and they didn't show up on new threads when I was logged in. when I viewed the forum without logging in a bit later they were in new posts. When I logged in again they vanished.

The same thing's happening now, I can't see the new post I did a few minutes a go unless I log out and view with out logging in !!
