I have just logged on as normal and on the home page I clicked on "New Posts". A text box came up to say "Sorry no matches". I clicked on to "Quick links" and selected "Today Posts" and again a text box came up with the same message. Am I doing something wrong? Fred.

Thanks Ray, that was the problem but now cleared. Fred.

I have not had this problem at all today. I use Firefox 3. Could your browser have anything to do with it. Try getting rid of all cookies and cache to clear all junk. Perhaps that might help. Dave

I shall continue to try various options in an attempt to sort it, but be assured it is not a forum fault. The loss of the facility does make one adapt and become more flexible or inventive in one's search technique though:) Little h

I'm having the same trouble with New Posts. Mel

No problem with my system, but of course I'm still using the old reliable XP. Derek (Bunts)
Ray, same same problem here but deleting temp files doesn't work ... any other suggestions I might try please Little h
Harry, an IT engineer put me right on this one, when you log off the forum it places a cookie on your desktop to make it easier to get on the forum next time. For some reason or another this cookie is blocking your entry and needs to be removed. You will find it in temporary files or in cookies. I have windows 7 and I am able to find the cookie itself and remove it. Apparently the cookie is not "resetting itself" or so I am told. Ray H

I have a little tip that some one once gave me , was to go to "system restore" go back about 5 days ,and things should reboot ,back to normal .IF NOWT ELSE WORKS . cylla

I am finding that it is an intermittent occurrence - I just put it down to tempermental system or just me having digit trouble - agree it can be a bit frustrating but what in life ain't these days. Harry - I am on XP Laptop and Vista on Desktop. I dumped Google Chrome cos' it gave me more hassle than I wanted. Dave H

Ray H
When I had Windows XP I used to periodically delete all cookies. There is a separate file for them if I remember rightly. That fixed this type of problem for a while, until the cookie numbers built up again. Almost every site you visit will leave a cookie! Steve

Try installing "Crap Cleaner" (free) which will delete your browsing history at the start/end of each online session. If you set it to automatically delete that is. It is possible to set it to work during online visits, depending on how many sites you choose to visit. To my knowledge, it is not invasive nor malware. Sandy.

Cheers folks, all info noted and some of it is quite pertinent because a combination of these issues seem to have been in play at the commencement of the problem, a while back now though. I think that is basically related to having removed a newer version IE and not reset the laptop to a date far enough back before the onset of the problem. I don't use Chrome; nor do I use Vista and the delete Browser history is set to do so after each session. Strange though, the 'new posts' feature DID WORK on one occasion a few weeks ago when I logged in and guess what.... to test if it was a fluke I logged out and back in .... it was gone:o:eek: One will overcome in the end!! Thanks again for all advice suggestions. Little h

I agree with Sandy, "Crap Cleaner" is free and a good programme. I ran it after Ray suggested getting rid of cookies and it cured the problem initially but an hour later it was back - some were still there. A free update of the programme was available (from Piriform) and after downloading that, it got rid of all the cookies. Am running trouble free now. Fred. :D :D

Problem resolved!!!:) Seems that the solution was within my grasp all the time. If I had included the 'preserve favourites website data' when deleting browsing history, cookies & temp internet files (even though the last two are included in the first) then the problem would have been resolved. Lets hope it last a while. Little h

This seems to be contagious. I had been using Explorer 9 on my new netbook computer for several weeks without any problems until yesterday. Neither the "New Posts" nor "Today's Posts" would work - I just got the dreaded "Sorry no matches". After changing the settings suggested above and deleting cookies it was still the same. To cut a long and frustrating story short, I deleted WNSF from my favourites list, rebooted and IT WORKED! It must be something to do with the favourites cookie, perhaps being corrupted or misread by IE9. P.S. I should have mentioned that my netbook uses Wndows 7 starter.

Bill, I just wondered whether there had been a browser update recently .. you know what these things are like, Sometimes when I have browser problems .. normally security updates these days, I delete the update, and things are fine. I still use sturdy old XP, and IE8, and touch wood, haven't experienced these problems that members are reporting/
I still use sturdy old XP, and IE8, and touch wood, haven't experienced these problems that members are reporting/
I use Vista and IE8 on my main computer at home, and likewise have never had this problem. It is only on my netbook which I got to while away the hours in a coffee shop while my wife is shopping. I agree with you that an IE9 update seems the most likely explanation. I think I will turn automatic updates off.

Another problem seems to be that, when you post a reply a thread, it doesn't necessarily come up to the front of the list. I just put a new post on the Malta thread and, although the post is there all right, the thread remained on page 4. Mel

If you logged out and returned a few minutes later it would then be at the top of the list in New Posts.

Just got a new Windows7 computer with IE9. I have the same problem with "New Posts". Tried deleting the cookies and re=booting. No change. Ed
Just got a new Windows7 computer with IE9. I have the same problem with "New Posts". Tried deleting the cookies and re=booting. No change. Ed
Ed, the problem is with the cookie and the way it is handled. I fixed (or got round) my problem as follows:- 1. Start IE9, but do not access WNSF. 2. Remove WNSF from the favourites list. (Create a shortcut instead) 3. Delete the WNSF cookie. 4. When you next start WNSF you will need to manualy sign in. Do NOT check the "Remember me" box as it just generates another cookie. You will need to sign on manually each time. A bit of a pain I know, but at least it works.

Hope this advice is good for others also. I must remember not to install Internet Explorer 9 until I hear this type of problem has been resolved. Thanks again for your advice Bill. Jim

I too installed IE 9 and then ditched it for the same reasons!! Same with google Chrome. In both cases I lost the new posts facility so they had to go!! I am hoping Kc might be able to eventually sort this problem out but it will probably require a lot of work to do so.

I've just got a new laptop and it's started doing this 'not showing new posts and today's post' thing that you guys were talking about. Being a bit dim on the IT front I don't really quite understand the solutions presented.:confused: I did the delete cookies and temporary files thing but it didbn't fix the problem. I'm using Windows 7, same as at work where the problem doesn't happen. I have no idea what version of Internet Explorer I'm using tho' nor how to find out. And still haven't found the HELP icon to talk to it. What should I try to do now? The bemused

I've tried that "crap cleaner" program that Sandy recommended and it seems to be working (fingers crossed). :) the relieved

Hello Missy. To find out which version of Internet Explorer that you are using, click on the HELP button on the Menu Bar, ie File, Edit, View, Favourites, Tools, HELP. In the drop down list that appears, scroll down to ABOUT INTERNET EXPLORER then click on it. The box that opens will show the version, ie Internet Explorer 8 for example, and the line below will show which release of that version you are using. Jim

After that it was easy - it's version 9, I'm really a dumb cluck at this IT lark...:o Hope to goodness I don't blow the whole thing up before it gets older than a day or Him-in-doors will blow a gasket :o:o Now I've gone and lost access to the Pull-down Buddy list... OK fixed that by the popup blocker thingy and getting it allowed.

Hello Missy as long as all your thingys and wotsits are working you should be ok:D:D Jim
Hello Missy as long as all your thingys and wotsits are working you should be ok:D:D Jim
Well, Jim I just can't help being so technical... it's gift tha knows;):D Many thanks for the help

I find it annoying that after clicking on a thread photo then clicking to go back to thread I always find I have returned to the bottom of the page instead of where the photo was. I then have to scroll to where the photo was. Is it me or the web site?

Keith, I do believe if you start from the TOP of the page when viewing images, then when you click to go back to text, then the whole page stabilises and you return to the post that contained the relevant image. Hope this works for you. Sandy.

Happy New Year everyone. Just logged on after a ten day break so there is a lot of catching up to do. I also have the "Crap Cleaner" programme downloaded and I set it to "delete cookies at start up" some three weeks ago. This takes only a second or two and the problem of not being able to view new posts has completely disappeared. What a pain in the rear end that was. Fred.

Works a treat Sandy, I changed my option to latest letter to the thread to be on top of screen.

Pleased to be of service Keith.;) Us engineroom louts are slowly catching up with non-steam-driven technology eh?:D Fred, glad to see also that CC is proving to be a useful tool.;) Sandy.
What a clever old Klankie ......must be the effect of living so close to the old Mercury site. :):):):) Dave H
Perhaps you have a valid point there Dave. After all, HMS MERCURY was my final draft ......... :D Sandy.

I and many others might say "Poor You" but as a final for a Waterlooville native and a Klankie it must have been manna from heaven. A great number of we Comms guys avoided the "College of Knowledge" like the plague - far too many contempories all jostling :eek:. Still to get back on track ..... no problems that a bit old fashion tweaking can't cure. Dave H

I now have the dreaded problem again. No new posts!! Despite turning off new new automatic updates I am stuck with IE9 - I can go back to a restore point and regain IE7 but within a day it automatically updates again to IE9 [even though I have opted to turn off the automatic updates!] After doing this 4 times I have given up and now have to wade through each forum to find new posts which as a moderator is especially annoying. :(:( Surely there must be something that can be done to get the forum able to acess the new posts facility on IE9 which is starting to be the most well used of all browsers I would hazard a guess??

Terry I've got Windows 7 Home Premium with IE9, and the only thing that makes New Posts work is using Sandy's recommended Crap Cleaner in Post #16 . Granted that I have to run it first before clicking New Posts but it does do the trick. It's nice and nippy so it's no hardship. Could be that the clever IT savvy guys on the forum(s) could suggest something better... but CC might be a good 'get out of jail free card' pro tem. Missy

I have got it also but find that there are a number of variations to this problem:- a) search without logging in and I will see the new posts b) log in and click on new posts and I will see the new posts c) having stayed logged in and click on new posts, on occasions I can see them but not in time order or most recent first, in other words I can scroll down and see them by thread/forum order. But the new posts are there. d) having stayed logged in and clicked on 'tools' / 'safety' to delete cookies and temporary internet files, I get the new posts in most recent first order. Little h

I must be blessed, I have IE 9 installed and can view New Posts with no difficulties. I presume IE 9 would be a global program and that I should be having the same problems.
