I joined Vanguard in march 1950 and left her in july the same year. Ballachullish was included in the cruise and I remember what a God forsaken place it was, wonderful scenery and that was all. Ray h
Yes Keith I was on the same trip, was not Ballachullish also part of that cruise? Ray H
Correct, Ray, missed it out because I didn't know how to spell it!

My older brother served aboard Vangaurd early 50s, joined her straight from Ganges as a boy seaman.

Hi Pluto , was your brother a " stoker " as well ?on the Vanguard

No Jim, as stated, he was a boy seaman.

Hi Pluto , sorry miss read , Did he get abroad ? and see the world .....

Sure, as we all did Jim he did his 7 and 5, after 7 he left the mob and joined in the M N. He always said he had a better time in the M N.

My father in law took this in Portsmouth harbour. It does not look as though she is in steam or in commission, any thoughts? Possibly leaving to be broken up, clarification from the mem sahib, it was taken the day she left Portsmouth, the family went down to see her off.
