I purchased this Airfix Kit on EBay some time ago and never got round to building it. The photograph on the lid is very good, I was wondering if anyone had a copy.

I was standing on deck with the Commander one morning and we were talking about how we might 'improve' the lines of the ship -I suggested that a 'go faster' stripe along the base of the hangar in line with the flight deck would move the eye away from the 'box' and give the ship a more continuous line from the mid-upper to the stern. He agreed to give it a trial, and we kept it. For some reason, Blake didn't do it.

Hi Shipmates, newby here, joined Tiger Jan 66 for the West Indies run where we missed the England vs Portugal football match and also the American college girls visit to Bermuda. Left after the Middlesborough run, so missed the Aberfan and Gib Talks. Always remembered her as being a happy ship, perhaps it was all the great runs she got, never had another ship with so many. However, remember that during the firing of the guns the fluorescent lights in the Stbd Comms mess used to shatter and leave glass and powder all over our bunks, and the incessant noise of the shell hoist didn't help either. It was only later on in my time that I ended up going to "other places" on ships, even if it was just to get a jug of kye heated up with some super-heated-steam. rgds

Certainly the best cruise I was ever on and Hull being my home town, the hospitality was fantastic, I organised a trip to the Hull Brewery, at the Ship's dance at the City Hall, Saturday night, the young ladies outnumbered the matelots three to one, all the RA's (Ration Allowance) ratings went home to their wives. The movie was Thunderball part filmed in the Exumas. that was some Admiral's cruise they don't seem to have the Admirals any more, nor do they have the ships. No matter where she went it was always a happy time for all. Except when we went to Clyde. But can't have everything. Middlesborough was the start of many new relationships that seemed to last. rgds [B][I]Dom[/I][/B]

I enjoyed the Clyde, had some good runs ashore and won swimming and water polo awards, still got them somewhere.

Went into a pub with an oppo and this huge Scotsman leaned across the bar and waggling a finger shouted "If you're here to move boggin ships then you can get out of my pub". Soon finished our pints and left. Obviously not a good time to be wearing uniforms in those days. Was also the first time had ever seen policemen not only in pairs but also in 4's. But then I came from the more sedate Home Counties.

We only walked round in twos on Friday and Saturday evenings. I think we were at the time 1000 men short so they couldn't afford to have us in fours unless Rangers were playing Celtic. Geoff

Geoff[/QUOTE] Geoff, That is how I remember that visit back in the mid-60's on Tiger, but it may have been the area (don't ask, haven't a clue but probably near the docks) or two patrols met up by that part of town as part of the normal way of things. Mind you, when I went back in the late 80's and early 90's as a day visitor, I was not impressed by the way of things. Many places with heavy mesh over windows, double electronic locks everywhere. Remember the sound of them clunking when visiting a petrol station! But historically and generally physically so similar to Edinburgh, some very nice people.

Lots of good memories of Glasgow, from the Tiger visit, some unprintable but very funny good for reunions, I also took a bus there from Edinburgh, when I was on the Victorious in Rosyth 1958, great hospitality from the RNA, the bus driver detoured to drop us at the door, they wouldn't let us spend a penny, goy up homers for the night in the Gorbals from the Secretary, then back to the club for a lunchtime session no idea how we got back onboard the ship. As JSA(S) on 4/6d a day, a good run. One of my favourite photos of Tiger in Glasgow. two of my run ashore oppos I know sadly John Kielty has crossed the bar, but if anyone knows the location of Doc Holliday, I would like to get in touch, he owes my two shillings.

My time in Tiger was one of my most enjoyable times in the RN. We had great trips, sailors today will never get anything like them, we had a happy crew who knew how to enjoy life. When I first joined Tiger we had Cdr.(E) Pillar, a real gentleman, he became a full Admiral, he deserved it. Stories of Glasgow are a bit out of place here, but here goes, my first time in Glasgow was in 50 it was a pretty grim place where children followed us around saying " Giz a penny mister". In Hecla we were alongside at Greenock, on a Monday morning the police came onboard to ask if we had seen anything suspicious over the weekend. A RFA ship had been burgled on the Friday night, the police said the thieves were Roman Catholics because only the silver fish knives & forks had been stolen!

Dear Friends of HMS TIGER, I would like to obtain any info regarding the ships bell which may carry the name of Susan Karen Clifton who was christened on the ship in 1959,her farther the late Peter Charles Clifton, who i believe to be the chief petty officer at that time served on board during this time. They were always astounded by the openness and generosity of all that we met. All the ships we served on have now gone to the wreckers yard, leaving us only with our memories of names like Tiger, Eagle, Lincoln, Bulwark, Yarmouth, Reclaim. But so many RNA branches have also fallen by the wayside, including the St Albans branch of which I was a founder member whilst serving, and where I met my first wife. This restricts the places us old salts can go to swing the lamp.

Barry, were there two ships bells. I had my son christened aboard in 64. The bell you refer to on your web site seems to be a new one, after her conversion maybe. I think we had this topic previously & no one knew the whereabouts of the original bell.

One of our ex Tiger crew is a book producer and he wants to put a hard back book together of photos of our dear old lady. Does anyone have any good photos that you might like to consider letting him use? We are talking about photos of your own that permission could be given for use. If you are on Facebook you would be able to see the request on either of the Tiger groups.

HMS Tiger C20 Visited Hull in 1965 15th July, I would appreciate any copies of photographs from that visit. The Tiger Association is having their Annual Meeting at Kingston Upon Hull, " City of Culture 2017", just happens to be my home town. Travelling Poppy Exhibit Hull Maritime Museum. Attached is an application form for anyone wanting to attend. HMS Tiger C20 Association Reunion 22nd/25th 2017 The 4 Star Hallmark Hotel, North Ferriby near HULL There are still plenty of rooms (18) left for this years reunion if you are considering attending. Any rooms not taken by the 1st June 2017 have to be returned to the hotel so I cannot guarantee you a place should you decide later to attend our 19th reunion. It is a popular place for weddings etc. There are no other hotels close by. Compared with last year and the average numbers that normally turn up the totals for this year are very disappointing. I was already aware that a few of you would not be attending for various reasons but not 30! If all goes to plan this year the evening entertainment programme for the weekend could be as follows:- Friday– a comedian, Saturday– a singer, Sunday– a quiz If you do decide to join us in Hull I would appreciate it if you would let me know as well as posting your booking form off to the Hallmark Hotel.

Barry, would love to join you but there are 84 reasons I cannot. I am attaching a page from the local Hull paper dated 16th July 65. It is not a very good reproduction, maybe you can do something with it. Hull was a great visit, we had a mass of people visiting the ship, a great dance was put on for us.

I use this Australian .50p piece as a ball marker when I play golf, the Australian Royal Naval Reserve, sent a A$1000, to London RNR. September 20th 1976,*H.M.S. Fittleton*collided with H.M.S. Mermaid, whilst doing a R.A.S. and sank. We all bought them at £1.00 to swell the Fittleton Fund.
