Computer Browser Problems. (Page 2)

Posts 51 to 100

Hi Kevin , A lot of us have been having the same trouble and are using different ways to try and eliminate the problem . Look at the "COMPUTER BROWSER PROBLEMS" Thread and you will see what has been going on and how members have tried to correct it. It does seem to be an intermittent fault on the site and especially linked to those using FIREFOX as their browser. Bon Chance mon ami ;) Dave H

Not sure what the root of the problem is. I was experiencing the same problem on my Tower PC when using Firefox v43.0.1 and Windows10, but I have now bought a laptop and I am using the same setup but, so far touch wood, the New Posts and Quick Links drop down for Today's Posts is working ok. Consequently, the problem does not appear to be caused by the site. My iPad, using Safari, has never had the problem. Jim

Musr agree there Jim , my PC is still coughing up the problem but thusfar my laptop on Windows 7 with Firefox is running OK. Am now contemplating downloading the freeby Windows 10 on my laptop but still quite wary after reading all the problems there were with it. Dave H

Been using Windows 10 on PC since its beginning after upgrading it from Windows 7 and had a problem or two at the beginning, but nothing major, except that my old laser printer will not work with W10 but it did with XP and W7. Jim

Gents, Thanks for the feedback! Interestingly I have not changed anything on my laptop for a year or two, that is am using Win 7 and Firefox, and up till late last week never had a problem; then suddenly no 'New Post' access. So it appears odd (to me anyway) that my computer suddenly started causing the problem (as opposed to a site glitch), given I have changed nothing whatsoever on my computer settings from when the 'New Posts' link worked, and then the next day it didn't. But hey, stranger things have happened! And no matter how many times I have tried the 'link' I have not been able to 'get through' (even intermittently as Mr Woo initially suggested). Anyway, again, thanks all!

Jim
Not sure if I have stumbled on the problem and it points the finger at Firefox. I bought a new laptop yesterday and it was loaded with Firefox V43.0.1 and all was working ok. Today I got an update for Firefox and it updated to v44.0.2 and the problem with New Posts and the Quick Links option to Today's Post has returned. Not sure if I can roll back to v43.0.1 but I will see if its possible. Jim

I did a couple of things and now back to normal with New Posts working, but not sure which tweak sorted the problem. I read that, following upgrading, the Firewall may not recognise the latest version and block certain features. It said the solution was to delete Firefox from the Firewall settings, which I did, then reinstate it, which I did not because I couldn't find how to. I then found information on how to download and install my earlier version of Firefox, which I did, and all worked normally. As I was shutting down Firefox it informed me that it was updating itself, despite me choosing not to Update automatically, but to let me choose when to install Updates. Consequently, I am now back on v44.0.2 and all seems to be working normally. Not sure if the latest version added itself to my Firewall autmatically and the problem sorted. I will monitor it and keep you informed of developments. Jim ps see my next post

When I restarted my computer the problem had returned and must be due to the v44.0.2 upgrade. I reverted to 43.0.1 again and disabled the Update option, choosing not to look for Updates. I hope that will be the end of the problem until Firefox sorts the problem out, that is if its even aware that users are experiencing problems. Jim

Another day at the office  and all is looking well. Logged in with Firefox v43.0,1 and it found New Posts straight away. Hope my problems are behind me now. Jim

Don't hold yr breath Jim, logged on this mng gremlin returned, did a CC clean was able to get new posts, logged out just tried again no new posts. The plot continues. Derek (bunts)
Another day at the office  and all is looking well. Logged in with Firefox v43.0,1 and it found New Posts straight away. Hope my problems are behind me now. Jim
Two days no problems on the Laptop but still persisting on the PC.

Looking into Jim's hypothesis that our current "New Post" problem could be the due to the new version of Firefox (44.0.2) as the earlier version (43.0.1) works OK. Searching on the Mozzila site (makers of Firefox) there has been a problem reported and although this problem looks nothing like ours their response is that this version of Firefox has a problem clearing down history if it is closed down using the red X button (top RH corner of the browser). My findings is that clearing cookies and/or cache will clear the problem until the next start up of Firefox, so this problem might be the cause. Mozilla recommends to close Firfox down using menu bar File > Exit to circumvent the problem. The problem will be fixed in the next release of Firefox due out next month. In the meantime I will try using the File > Exit option to close Firefox down and see if it does cure our "New Post" problem. John

Thank you John ..... will give it a go

Many thanks John. I must admit that I always click on the x to close down Firefox as it is the quickest way. Hopefully, the next version will sort the problem. I hsve my browser home page set to http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/search.php?do=getnew so that, when it loads, by default it shows me the new posts since my last visit Jim

I am getting exactly the same problems with both Firefox and Internet Explorer intermittently. The symptoms are the same on both, and seem to clear when the browser in use is shut down and restarted. :(

Hi All I am experiencing the same problem at the moment. Having to go quick links and click on todays posts. Mitch Hinde
In the meantime I will try using the File > Exit option to close Firefox down and see if it does cure our "New Post" problem. John
Well that's my theory shot down in flames! Closing Firefox using File > Exit doesn't seem to have made any difference. Will the new version of Firefox fix the problem  John

Still problem free with the older version of Firefox, fingers crossed. Looking through a couple of related threads on the Forums, it looks as if this is an age old problem when browsers are updated and there are several mentions of problems with Internet Explorer and Firefox on a couple of threads, specifically on the New Posts problems. Jim

GA Jim , Like you this Laptop is still using Firefox 43 and not having the problem . Am going to bite the bullet and up the PC to 10 tomorrow. After a successful upgrade there I will follow with the Laptop  Happy Days

Heighho Jim , Upgraded to 10 on Laptop with Firefox ....... thusfar no problem. Can't do PC on a freeby cos' it is Vista .....so will stay with it.
Hi All I am experiencing the same problem at the moment. Having to go quick links and click on todays posts. Mitch Hinde
Hi Mitch, Took your advice and started using the 'quick links / todays post' option which initially worked, but today it now takes me to the same 'faulty' page as clicking on 'new post' did/does. :( Sure is an odd 'bug'!

Thought I had got round this darned problem but it seems to be back with a vengeance on both my Computers ....... damned frustrating only getting a result every fifteen or so tries. Dave H
Thought I had got round this darned problem but it seems to be back with a vengeance on both my Computers ....... damned frustrating only getting a result every fifteen or so tries. Dave H
Still using Firefox 43 and still problem free Jim

no problems here - my Dell still using Explorer + Chrome but the platform is XP sp2 and everyone is sending me messages that they won't be updating anything of much use during/after April. The Mrs2 uses a laptop of the same source/vintage. So looks like I will have to give in and buy 2 new fangled machines. Only need the box as everything else is relatively new and in good nick and Mrs2 never uses the laptop portably. The annoyance is that all the progs I use on a daily/weekly basis are still running fine and I will have to dig out the original discs and see if they load onto this Windows 10 thing. And the £:€ is very poor at the moment.

Same problems here on P C using X P with Fire-fox. But Tablet o k no problems on this.

Just tried the new release Firefox 45.0: SAME PROBLEM  ( I'm sticking with Safari!)
Just tried the new release Firefox 45.0: SAME PROBLEM  ( I'm sticking with Safari!)
Many thanks for the heads up, I will steer clear of it. I will stay with v43.0.1 and have set it not to look for updates. Jim

Today I upgraded Firefox to 45.0.1 and so far all seems ok. I will let you know how it is going tomorrow.

Another problem I have noticed is that when I make a new post, such as the previous one, it doesn't appear in "New Posts" or "Today's Posts" unless I log out and then log in again. Previously, it always appeared immediately. This appears to be a forum problem rather than a browser problem, as it started to do this before I upgraded the browser.

Your own post will not show up when you click on New Posts, but they should be on the list when you click on Quick Links/Todays Posts. Jim
That's the problem Jim - it didn't appear on "Quick Links/Todays Posts" until I had terminated the browser and restarted it again.
Ok Bill, thats one of the problems that I was having with v45.0 but I am now back at v43.0.1 and all works as it should, so not sure where the problem lies:confused: Jim

Seems that it's my turn to have problems, new posts not responding, entering thru quick links/todays posts, etc., etc.!! The Welcome box top right, wasn't updating this afternoon, even though I logged out. I'm using Firefox browser and Windows XP, seems to be a bit of a mystery. Jack. Latest: I posted this, it didn't show in new posts, as normal, nor quick links/todays posts. In the blue header bar, search:todays posts it reads as follows: Showing results 1 to 4 of 4 Search took 0.01 seconds; generated 91 minute(s) ago. This was when I logged in much earlier!! Latest Latest: Logged out, then logged in, now new posts and quick links/todays post both return same message: Sorry, no matches found: please try different terms!!!!!:confused: Surely, this must be a host/site problem?

I reverted to Firefox 43.0.1 to rid myself of the New Posts problem. Your own posts do not show in New Posts, but should show in Quick Links/Todays Posts Jim

Well, I'm having a problem with the search function - it won't return any results more recent than September 2013 when I search "Queen Elizabeth" and select "Royal Navy Ships and Crew" in the subforums list. Not even in the "RN Carriers: Queen Elizabeth Class" thread.
All is back to normality now and I didn't do anything!!!!
Another of life's great mysteries. Pleased it is now sorted. Jim

The results are never consistent and, sometimes, whilst it may find the answer, you may have to trawl through several pages to find what you want. Also, it doesn't appear to make any distinction between thread titles and post content. Jim
All is back to normality now and I didn't do anything!!!!
Dont' hold your breath Jack . I am still getting these gremlins visit on a daily basis and now think I am lucky if a get in. Dave H

I am still experiencing all of the above problems (except searching) with different versions of both Firefox and Internet Explorer - so it cannot be just a browser problem. I do not have these problems with any other forum or bulletin board I use. So it must be a problem with this forum only. Another problem is that when I use "Quick links" and "Todays posts" the threads displayed are not always in time of last post order. i.e. the latest post is not always at the top as they used to be. Morning all, I get the same problem from time to time, I'm using windows 10 edge, if the problem arises I tap on the 3 dots top right screen tab down to clear browsing history select clear. This always works, if I remember I clear before any further actions. Hope this helps those on windows 10. Derek Bunts

Derek Bunts
Well how interesting, I haven't been able to 'get in' via New Posts for quite a while and the above just worked for me for accessing New Posts (by the way, I am still using Win 7 Pro). However, was today just one of those odd days when the gremlin was napping, as is (very) occasionally the case, or............is the above the new 'backdoor' in. Lets see if the same happens when I try it tomorrow. Note though that you do not want to clear ALL browser history as you will then loose any passwords stored, etc (as I have done in the past). I just ticked the 'Browsing and Download History' box only. UPDATE: Well damn, as I was afraid, it seems the gremlin was just off sleeping when I 'got through' before, as when I just went again to New Posts - a couple of hours after posting the above hopeful statement - it was back to the same old, same old "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms" when I clicked on New Posts. So, back to square one for me!

I run Vista , Windows 7 and Windows 10 and the gremlins have control of all three here ............ grrr:mad::( Dave H

I am hesitant to say this, in case I am temping providence, but I have had no problems from any browser or operating system for the last ten days. Nothing has been updated at this end - it just started working properly again. :)

If it's any use..... Until last week I have been running XP I have now commissioned 2 new computers running Windows 10 Pro I have not had any problem with this website (or any other) in my short relationship rgds Dom

The Gremlins are still very evident hereabouts , first time I have succeeded in raising steam for at least 24 hours. [Vista & Windows 10]. This is the only website I have this problem with. Dave H

Still have the same old gremlins myself Dave, dare not click on new posts, means travelling around and around the site locating what I can. Once logged in I click on Quick Links - Today's Posts, then pray!! Disgruntled from Kent, Jack.
