I gave up on Vista some months ago (it was slow and clutterd, taking up loads of my harddrive space) I now use Ubuntu 10.11 and Firefox browser.Much faster, on my ancient computer, and great when computer savvy is lacking.
I must be blessed, I have IE 9 installed and can view New Posts with no difficulties. I presume IE 9 would be a global program and that I should be having the same problems.
Are you using Vista with it?? It seems to be this combination with IE9 that is causing problems in the forum.

Clive, Wonder if you cam possibly help. The Forum tells me this is the correct thread for "Forum administration". When I log on and select "New posts" I get "Sorry no matches - please try different terms". Any suggestions as to what "terms" I should use in order to access all recent posts? Many thanks.

If you are, you should get a list of posts since your last visit. If you are not getting the list, try scrolling down the page and click on the button "Mark Forums Read" (just above the list of Members Online) and see if that cures the problem, although this will not be apparent until your next visit to the Forum, or after other Members have posted New Posts. Not sure why this has happened now, if it wasn't a problem before now. Have you updated your Browser lately, or changed to a different browser. Jim

Have never had this problem before but I sincerely hope that it is just my PC and that nobody else is experiencing this problem. Perhaps it will sort itself idc.

I had the same problem at about 2130 yesterday. Previously the problem has been overcome by deleting the "cookies" but last night there was nothing that would give me access so I just closed the page down assuming it was a temporary glitch. Tonight all is well. Regards Fred.

I have had the same problem with "Today's Posts" going to a "can't find it" page. Solved by using Firefox to boot up the forum, not IE. Nothing else seemed to help. Regards,

Jim
I have the same problem and get to 'new posts' by entering 'new posts' in the search box. Has been going on for some time now?????

Same problem arrived here today!:( Got round it by using Google Chrome browser - IE not playing!!

I use AOL to connect to the WWW and I believe its browser is a version of Internet Explorer and I have had no difficulty using the New Posts option. I also have Internet Explore v8, which I have just tried and the New Posts also works with that version. I also use Firefox v10.0.2 for browsing and haven't had any problems with New Posts option. Not sure of the solution to the problem:confused: Jim

Now working fine again on Int Exp!! as well as Chrome!!

Yes mine seems to be working fine now as well. Quite extraordinary that I had that glich. Hope it now remains set fair as I would not like to be without easy access to these fascinating forums.

I have had this problem in the past, found that if I go to quick links and then to todays posts I dont have any problems, just a thought. Derek (Bunts)

I've just joined the lost souls as New Post doesn't work, quick links > Todays Posts does nothing & searching as "new Posts" bring up new posts + anything with new or post in it. Anyone have any ideas how to get back to normal at all?

Try going into Search and typing New Posts. Mel

I tried that but as well as coming up with New Posts, it also brings up anything with the word new or post in it. Why does the problem happen? I'm on sites which are very similar in layout & they are still working OK.

medway508 I found this solution, as posted by Sandy, worked. It seemed to contrive a way to see 'New Posts'. I use it just after logging onto WNSF and again if New Posts won't update when I click the link. I seem to recall kc advising that this problem came about because of the host website upgrading their software. IIRC, he suggested marking all Forums Read and logging out just before leaving the site (after you'd read everything you wanted to).
Try installing "Crap Cleaner" (free) which will delete your browsing history at the start/end of each online session. If you set it to automatically delete that is. It is possible to set it to work during online visits, depending on how many sites you choose to visit. To my knowledge, it is not invasive nor malware. Sandy.
Missy

Thanks, tried that but no joy there.

Hi All Since the new adverts for pictures at the head of the listings page have been posted everything keeps trying to take two paces left close march apparently to compensate for the size of the adverts, nothing I do will correct it. It is OK on pages like this one (Reply to Thread). Any body else suffering in this manner?. Mitch Hinde

Someone else had mentioned the kick-over since the adverts started appearing at the top of the page. For comparison, I've had no problems, but then I have an extra-large monitor (24" diagonal) which may have something to do with it. And I bring up the WNSF in Firefox, which seems to handle vagaries far better than IE. My only problem is still an inability to do anything with "Reputation" -- my User CP page doesn't even have the check box for it others have. No idea why not.

Hi All Glad it's not just me, I thought that was the problem. Maybe the Mods can reduce the size of the blocks, makes things look untidy. Mitch Hinde

Now here's a funny one? Mostly I use my android mobile phone to access WNSF and have none of these problems - even to the point of still having a reputation tick box  Maybe less is more... Missy

I don't have problems on Google chrome, but it does tend to squash it a bit on IE on laptop Reputation? What's that. I'm not sure what I should be seeing to know if I am seeing it!
I don't have problems on Google chrome, but it does tend to squash it a bit on IE on laptop Reputation? What's that. I'm not sure what I should be seeing to know if I am seeing it!
If you look at the far right on the blue bar of a post there is a scales icon. That's the reputation icon. Click on it and you can give reputation points to the post's author and add a comment about the post. If someone gives you reputation points, they can be seen when you go to your 'User CP'. and also on the right of the blue bar when you post. They are little green boxes. It's mostly a fun way of showing one's approval of a post / author. Missy

Thanks Missy, never noticed that. Is there any way of seeing the reputation of someone else, so that you can know how much credence to give them?

Well, Rupert, only by the little green boxes and unless they are for you, you can't see the comment. To be fair they are only intended as a bit of fun. Myself, I assess 'credence' by what the poster says, how frequently they post and how the others receive what is said. Also their profiles will indicate their background and knowledge base. Broadly speaking I find the most active and committed members to have the most 'credence' if one ought to apply that measurement. As something of a class clown and a civilian to boot, I have the greatest respect for the membership, many of whom have been tolerate, helpful and supportive of my feeble efforts. Missy

I have the same problem with page display, where it aligns itself off-centre (6 clicks on the left arrow of the bottom scroller bar), but not on all pages. I think the problem will have to be sorted by KC and may need some amendment to the display coding. Jim

Thank you missy

Here we go again Moderators. Up until yesterday whenever I open up on the PC it tells me "Sorry , no matches etc etc" but on my laptop everything OK.Now, today it is happening on my laptop. My only way in is to log on and then go to "Forums Read" or send a PM. On my PC I am on IE9 and my laptop IE8. What is happening :confused: Dave H

Dave, when you eventually read this, please reconsider your decision. Your presence is needed here. Remember that you are a senior member and we cannot have any old Admiral (albeit a Communicator) stomping off in a dissatisfied state. I understand your frustration, as a professional Communicator you set your standards high, therefore that is what you expect. Ipso facto. Hopefully the software glitch will be resolved in the near future, so please put up with the lower than acceptable propagation for a little while longer.;) Sandy.

Hello Dave, sorry to hear of your continued problems. Unfortunately, the Moderators can do nothing about it but KC will, no doubt, look into it after this Bank Holiday weekend. Jim

Dave, I felt the same frustration as yourself and briefly considered chucking it in. But finally, I dumped Internet Explorer and now use only Firefox. I suggest you do the same, so that your contributions will continue to enrich WNSF. If you are unsure how to do this, just ask. It is really quite simple.

Dave You cannot leave or we will never resolve where we may have met. Mitch Hinde

Thanks guys one and all. I don't usually give up but having encountered this one several times and now on all three computers I ended up with a "Chuck the toys out of the Pram" fit. Apologies for my trantrum. I am going to hang in there and await what , hopefully , Kc comes up with. Bill , I hear you and may well try that one. For now I will keep my powder dry , have a tot , and enjoy this liquid sunshine we are having in Rusty Devon. Dave H

Dave That is great news !:):) We really appreciate and need your presence in this forum I understand your frustration although I don't seem to have the problem. Maybe my lack of computer tech has saved me from realising it ! Hang on in their Dave. (An old definition of frustration was having the runs and only a bent penny ) Brian

Been looking at this thread for a while, perhaps it might help with the problem if we had a straw poll as to what system/search engine we are using. My set up is windows xp, with original internet explorer 7. The only problem I had was trying to use new posts, seemed to solve this by using quick links then todays posts. My good lady using windows 7 on her lap top, don't like the system at all. Derek Bunts

Derek, I have the same setup as you and seldom get problems. The only significant change was, following the earlier site crash, it was difficult to keep a record of new posts in particular threads as they came about. Like you, and as was suggested by Missy, a quick visit to "Quick Links" and then "Todays Posts" solved the problem. No doubt, as we speak, Admin and Mods are beavering away looking for a solution. Meantime, I consider myself fortunate compared to other's problems in accessing the site. Sandy.

Couldnt agree more, perhaps old is best Derek Bunts

My current one is IE9 but I also have Google Chrome so I logged on thru there - hey presto, three rubs of the lamp and - in like Flynn. So it looks like IE9 is the golly in the woodpile. Dave H p.s. to all lookers in - thanks for your comments.

Hi All I'm using a Toshiba L10 laptop with IE7 and Windows XP professional. Apart from the snags with the oversized ad blocks no probs at the moment. Mitch Hinde

Mitch Hinde
Hi Mitch, Funny you should say that. I bought a new laptop [HP with Windows 7 - IE9] and retired my Toshiba L.10/XP/IE7 - that was when the problem reappeared. However my PC is Windows Vista/IE8 and the problem is still there. As said before seems to be an Internet Explorer on Windows problem. Dave H

Hi All I have solved the problem of the oversized ads by reducing the screen magnification to 75%, but now I can't read anything, so back to the oversized ads.:(:( Mitch Hinde

or go to specsavers

I am currently running IE8 on windows Vista and have had no problems with the set-up, only when I update to IE9 did I experience any problems, removed IE9 which automatically reverts the system back to IE8 and all was fine once again. I think the problem lies in the cache memory of your individual computers, when you change and try to log in, the cookies on your system are set-up to work on your old browser, the new browser doesn't recognise them and it all goes pear-shaped. You need to clear your cookies from the memory cache and then log in again. (haven't tried myself as I don't have a problem YET!) Regards Alan
or go to specsavers
Hi Derek Could you post that a little larger please?. I think I need to go to specsavers. Mitch Hinde

IE is most likely to have these sort of problems, but even within a version it depends on which patches you have loaded I used to be a Firefox fan but they made it worse IMHO. So I moved to Chrome, which is better and much faster. Its only drawback seems to be that on my laptop at least it is flakey with Flash- which doesn't generally matter for WNSF
