HMS Corunna 1947-1967 (Page 2)

Posts 51 to 57

Hello I am new to the website but interested to see someone had a close connection to the HMS Corruna. I am interested in finding out if anyone knows about an accident that happened aboard the ship. My Uncle was believed to be knocked over board during the return to the UK from the far east, do you know anything about this and could explain further. He died in August 1965 during his journey home? If you have any information I would be very grateful. Many Thanks Eppie deVries
Great picture Tim. I have put a bit of body into it so that it will make things easier for the members to possibly recognise any old shipmates. Bob.
Many thanks. On spite of your yeoman efforts I still cannot pick out my idiot younger brother. He certainly isn't in the front row. :) My guess is that he is in the tiller flat where I suspect he made more than the occasional visit. He always maintained that CORUNNA was one of the two happiest ships he served in. In contrast a close messmate a few years later said that he was in BARROSA at the same time and he had nothing good to say about her. Different ships, different cap tallies.

Anyone out there who was on the Corunna for the '62/'64 commission? She was now officially classed as a Battle (Air Direction) Conversion Destroyer after a major rebuild at Roysth. She had two "firsts", the Bedstead aerial and Seacat (the first operational ship with Seacat)! Fond memories of dodging bolts being dropped by workmen on the Forth Road Bridge when entering and leaving harbour; and of course (as a real greenhorn) putting my name down for The Malta Dog Club!! Was a member of the Magnificent Seven, aka the Squid Crew. Those were the days, eh?

Great photo, thank you but Corunna was a Battle Class, not a C Class...

Previous two posts moved from the C Class destroyer thread. Jim
