 Farfadet Class Submarines.  Photographs and history of the French Submarines of the Farfadet Class, including Farfadet, Gnome, Korrigan and Lutin.

Ordered on the 26th September 1899. These single hull submarines were built at The Arsenal de Rochefort and designed by M Maugas.  The initial projected cost per submarine was £32,000 each.  These were not a very successful class of submarine with Farfadet accidentally sinking at Bizerte on the 5th July 1905 with 14 of the crew of 16 lost. The Farfaset was re-floated and re commissioned  in September 1909 as the Follet.   The Lutin also sank accidentally on the 16th Octber 1906 and again re-floated. 

Displacement: 185 tons and 202 tons submerged.  Crew 16   Speed: 6.1 knots  and 4.3 knots submerged.    Range 115 nm at 5. 3knots  surfaced and 28 nm at 4.32 knots submerged.  Armament: four 450mm torpedo in external cradles.
