HMS Glatton |
| Name :
HMS Glatton Laid Down : 26th May 1913 Launched : 8th August 1914 Completed : 31st August 1918 Type : Monitor Class : Gorgon Builder : Armstrong Country : UK Pennants : Fate : Sunk in explosion, Dover harbour, 16th September 1918. |
| Ordered as a Coastal Defence ship for the Royal Norwegian Navy, to be named Bjørgvin, she was purchased on the outbreak of war. Shortly after commissioning she suffered a fire in one of her six inch magazines and was torpedoed to prevent the main magazine from catching fire, which would have resulted in severe damage to the town of Dover. She was partly salvaged in 1926 and moved out of the main shipping lane and was eventually buried under landfill to accommodate the current ferry terminal. |
