HMS Hearty Laid Down : Launched : 4th September 1939 Completed : 22nd January 1940 Type : Destroyer Class : Havant Builder : Thornycroft Country : UK Pennants : H57 Fate : Ordered by Brazil and laid down as Juruena on 6th July 1938. Requisitioned and renamed Hearty 4th September 1939 and commissioned 22nd January 1940. Renamed HMS Hesperus after completion on 27 February 1940. Scrapped 1946. |

1st August 1939 - Launched 1940 - Renamed HMS Hesperus 14th January 1940 - Lt Cdr D G F W Macintyre in Command 14th January 1940 - Completed and Joined 9th Destroyer Flotilla with the Home Fleet 12th February 1940 - Sailed Plymouth to search for the German ships which had escaped from Vigo 15th February 1940 - Arrived Plymouth 22nd February 1940 - Searched for submarines NW of Cape Finisterre 27th February 1940 - Renamed HMS Hesperus to avoid phonetic confusion with destroyer leader HMS Hardy 26th November 1946 - Scrapped at Grangemouth |
