| Dittmann, Gerhard KIA 18 August,1943 while flying Bf 110G-4 Werk # 5479 G9 + FZ of 12/NJG-1 (Leeuwarden 7/43) against the British raid on Peenemunde. His R/O, Uffz Theophil Bundschu was also killed. The G-4 crashed at Marum, NE of Drachten Holland (DeSwart), shot down by a Beaufighter of RAF No. 141 Sq., piloted by F/O H.E.White and Radar Oper F/O M.S.Allan. Dittmann has no known grave, while Bundschu (geb 12/18/22) washed ashore on the island of Mando on 28 September, 1943, and was buried in the Fovrfelt Cemetery, Gr 22, on 4 October, 1943 (Source: Air War over Denmark). One known victory, a B-17 into the North Sea NW of Vlieland on 25 July, 1943. Another B-17 into the sea near helgoland on 26 July, 1943. " | |

Manufacturer : Heinkel | He111 The German medium bomber the Heinkel He111 was designed by Siegfried and Walter Günter. The first He111 flew on 24th of February 1935, piloted by chief test pilot Gerhard Nitschke. The Heinkel He111 was the primary medium bomber of the Luftwaffe during the opening years of World War Two and the major bomber during the Battle of Britain. It was also used as a torpedo bomber during the Battle of the Atlantic. The Heinkel He111 was used in all theatres, Western, Eastern, Middle East and Northern Africa. He111 continued in production into 1944 and by the end of the war it was used primarily as a transport. Its origins came from a pre war airliner design. | |
