History of  Royal Navy cruisers (minelayers). Royal Navy cruiser website dedicated to the Abdiel Class. HMS Abdiel, HMS Latona, HMS Manxman, HMS Welshman, HMS Apollo, HMS Ariadne including crew and families of ex-crew members notice board for the Abdiel Class minelayer cruisers.

HMS Abdiel (M39) was built at White and launched 23th April 1940 and served in Mediterranean in  1941 and moving to the Eastern fleet in 1942 and to the Home Fleet in 1942 and 1943 and again back to the Mediterranean fleet at the end of 1943. she was mined and sunk on the 9th September 1943 in Taranto Bay

HMS Latona (M76) was built by Thornycroft and launched on the 20th August 1940, she went to serve in the Mediterranean fleet in 1941 but was sunk by Italian aircraft off the coast of Libya on the 24th October 1941.

HMS Manxman (M70) was built Stephen and launched 5th September 1940 she served initial in the Home Fleet 1941 - 1942 and moving to the Eastern Fleet 1942 - 1943 and the Home Fleet 1943 - 1945. Becoming a M/S support ship 1963.

HMS Welshman M84) was built at Hawthorn Leslie and launched on the 4th September 1940. first serving in the Home Fleet 1941 - 1942 moving to the Mediterranean fleet 1943 where she was torpedoed and sunk by U-617 off Crete on the 1st February 1943

HMS Welshman. built by hawthorn Leslie and launched 4th September 1940 and completed 25th August 1941. Served in the Home Fleet 1941 - 1942 and then the Mediterranean fleet 1943.  Torpedoed and sunk by U-617 on the 1st February 1943.
