Umberto |
The Re Umberto in dock at Spezia in
1897. Named after the King of Italy was a sister ship of the Sicilia and
Sardegna. Re Umberto, Ruggiero di Lauria, Sicilia and Lepanto formed the
1st Division of the Active Squadron.

| Sicilia |
The Sicilia was one of the
newest and most powerful battleships in the Italian Navy in 1897. She
was christened by Queen Margherita who, after the benediction, attached
a consecrated ring by a ribbon to the stern as the ship entered the
water, according to the old Venetian usage of "wedding the ship to
the sea".
