HMS URCHIN

JAMES SPRING..  My grandfather James Spring served on the HMS Urchin as a stoker during WW2.  He is still around and 80 years old this December.  I am searching for some pictures of the ship, can you please help?  Contact here

ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET LORD LEWIN...... My father was Terry Lewin, ultimately he became Admiral of the Fleet Lord Lewin whose last appointment was as Chief of the Defence Staff at the time of the Falklands conflict. He died in January 1999 after which I passed the major part of his "important effects" to the National Maritime Museum (where he had also acted as head of the trustees). His life has been well covered in Richard Hill's authorised biography "Lewin of Greenwich" which is still in print and a good read. Now I am collating other materials about him and would particularly like to hear from all and any former colleagues, ship's companies, national servicemen, anyone, with stories, memories and recollections about him. I am particularly interested in sea jobs (but anything is welcome) which in order from 1939 were;-  Belfast, Valliant, Ashanti, Chequers, Corunna, HMY Britannia, Urchin, Tenby, Hermes.  I am aware that unless I collect these stories now they will soon be lost so please, all of you, try to remember something!            Many thanks, Tim Lewin                                        tim.lewin@btinternet.com

HMS HARDY

My grandfather A/CPO CE Tuckwell (Taff) was one of the crew members killed in January 1944. I would like to hear from anyone with more information about my grandfather and the incident. Contact me at andytuckwell76@talk21.com

HMS VIGILANT

REG GEORGE... My father served on HMS Vigilant 26th Destroyer Flotilla from 1943-45. HMS Vigilant took part in the sinking of the Japanese cruiser Haguro in 1945. Sadly my father passed away in 1992. If there are any former members or relatives of the crew of Vigilant who would be interested in photos or paper cuttings. I have also a copy of the radio printout for the sinking of Haguro. Contact Adrian George at Info@Adrianart.co.uk

HMS VIRAGO

DAN DONELLY.. My father, Dan, served on HMS Virago from 1947, following a refit. Any information about him or the ship contact me at dandon@btopenworld.com

WILKIN. My father served on HMS Virago from 1945 to 1948. I believe Virago was on the Haifa patrol during this time. My Father was a Chief Petty Officer in Engineering. I have some photos of Virago sailing from malta and my father with other crew members. i would be happy to show these photos and a few sea stories with anyone who served on Virago during this time. Contact  Bigcohotom@aol.com

My dad served on HMS Virago shortly after World War 2 as a CPO in Engineering, a "Tiffie" as I believe they were called.  I would like to contact a few of my Dad's ol' shipmates, if I can, or perhaps anyone who sailed on the "Haifa Patrol".  I am attaching a photo of my Dad in the Beer Garden at the Mulberry Club in Haifa dated August 1946.  If anyone has any information on HMS Virago or its crew members please contact Tom Wilkin at   NavalTom@aol.com

HMS URANIA

JANION..  My father served on HMS Urania  from Dec 1955 to November 1957. I am looking for a photo of HMS Urania, I tried Wright and Logan, it seems they are no more. If anybody can help I would love to hear from them contact. Chris Janion at christopherjanion@hotmail.com

HMS URANIA & HMS VENUS.. BARBOUR..  During April 1953 and May 1955 I served on both HMS Venus and HMS Urania as a Coder (Educational). All the photographs I had of this period were destroyed in a house fire and I have no photographic memories left to share with my son. If anyone has pictures of HMS Venus & HMS Urania. I would love to see a copy. I would love to hear from anyone who has any photos from this period. Contact John Barbour at johnbarbour@ntlworld.com

HMS UNDINE

MALCOLM (BUCK) TAYLOR...  I was a Mechanical Engineer (stoker), from 57 to 60, and was on board the night we were sailing off Breast, when a fuel pump in the boiler room failed, at the time we were sailing in line astern with HMS Undaunted. With the failure of the fuel oil pump we lost speed, and the Undaunted crashed into our stern, entering in the seamans messdack, my damage control was aft of that position in the  aft tiller flat, I was not too keen on manning that position, as it looked to me as if the whole stern would fall off into the sea.    We patched up the damage as much as we could, and sailed to Plymouth for repairs. I would  be most obliged  to know if there are any more shipmates who remembers that night.

HMS URSA

RONALD JAMES COLLINS.. Anyone who knew my father Ronnie Collins from Liverpool, i think he served in the galley, he had family somehere in London, an uncle surname Mutch, originally from Liverpool. Thanks, Steve Collins.  Contact Here
