World Naval Ships German Navy Cruisers Light Cruisers Gazelle Class Niobe

[UP] - Gazelle - Niobe - Nymphe - Ariadne - Amazone - Medusa - Frauenlob - Undine - Thetis

SMS Niobe of the gazelle light cruiser class, Built at Germaniawerfr and laid down in 1897, launched 31st march 1898 and completed 6th October 1900. SMS Nymphe served with the fleet and as a training ship between 1900 and 1914, when war broke out Nymphe was used for coastal defence, and disarmed in 1916 to become a drill ship and accommodation ship.  SMS Nymphe remained in service after the war and in the 1923/1924 was refitted and rebuilt with a clipper bow and 500mm torpedo tubes. at Wilhelmshaven. finally  stricken 27th march 1929 and scrapped at Hamburg 1932

Displacement: 3033 tons. Speed: 23 Knots. Compliment 249 - 303.Armament: Ten 105mm, ten machine Guns, Two submerged 450mm (18 inch) Torpedo Tubes. later increased to 500mm TT.

Niobe 18th July 1899 Stricken on 24th June 1925.
