HMS, HMNZS Leander - Cruiser

Country : UK
Launched : 24th September 1931

She was badly damaged on 13th July 1943, when serving with Task Group 36. The group engaged the Japanese cruiser Jintsu and five of her destroyer escorts. Repairs were undertaken at Aukland then she went to Boston for a full refit. Consequently, she played no further part in the war before being returned to the Royal Navy. Armament: eight 6 inch guns in twin turrets, four 4 inch anti-aircraft guns in single mountings and twelve 0.5 inch machine guns in fours. Eight 21 inch torpedo tubes in quadruple mountings and 1 aircraft. Single 4 inch guns later replaced by four twin mountings.

On loan to New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy on 30th April 1937 which, in 1941, became the Royal New Zealand Navy. She was returned to the Royal Navy 27th August 1945. Scrapped 1949.
