Class Japanese Battleships. Ordered under the Japanese Naval expansion
programme of 1893. both ships Shikishima and Hatsuse were built in the
UK. and were improved versions of the Royal navy Majestic
Class. |

Shikishima
The Shikishima was built at the Thames Iron Works
and laid down on the 29th march 1897, launched on the 1st November 1898
and finally completed on the 26th January 1900. She was present at the Bombardment
of Port Arthur on the 9th February 1904 and also took part in the
Blockade of Port Arthur. She also was present at the Two naval battles
of the Russia - Japanese war, the Battle of of the yellow sea and the
Battle of Tsushima. After world war One she was re classed as a
Coastal defence Ship and from 1923 became a training Ship as part of the
Washington treaty. Finally being Scrapped after World war two at Sasebo
in 1947
Displacement: 14,850 tons and 15,453 tons full
load. Speed: 18 knots. Compliment:

and Twenty 12 pdr QF guns Six - 3 pdr and Six 2.5 pdr Five

| Hatsuse
The Hatsuse was built in the UK by Armstrong
Whitworth at Elswick and laid down on the 10th January 1898, launched
27th June 1899 and completed on the 18th January 1901. before sailing to
join the Japanese fleet she represent the Japanese emperor at the
Funeral of Queen Victoria. She was present
at the Bombardment of Port Arthur on the 9th February 1904 and
also took part in the Blockade of Port Arthur. On the 15th may
1904 She struck a Russian Mine and was taken in tow by the Asashi but
struck a second Mine and almost immediately sank after her magazine
exploded.
Displacement: 15,000 tons and 15,255 tons full
load. Speed: 18 knots. Compliment:
