SMS Schwaben of the
The Wittelsbach Class of German battleships of the Imperial German
navy were improved Kaiser class Battleships, designed in 1897 to
1898. they were the first ships to be ordered by Tirpitsz's new
navy law of 1898. and were good sea going battleships SMS
Schwaben was built at the Wilhelmshaven Imperial Dockyard
and launched 19th August 1901 and commissioned into the German
navy on the 13th April 1903. Served as a Artillery training
ship in 1904 and served until 1911/ Joined the Fleet in 1914 during
the first part of world war one as
part of the 4th squadron but proved to be slow and vulnerable and
were decommissioned. during 1916. Schwaben was disarmed.. soon after
Schwaben became a accommodation ship at Wilhelmshaven
In 1919 became a parent ship for
minesweeping motor launches each carrying 12. shallow draught F -
type minesweepers of the Reichsmarine, being used in this role between in 1919 finally
being stricken 8th march 1921 and sold for 3,090,000 German marks
and scrapped at Kiel-Nordmole 1921
Displacement: 12,596 tons, Sped: 17.5 knots.
Armament: Four 240mm Guns in pairs, Eighteen 150mm, twelve
88mm and twelve MG's Six 450mm Torpedo Tubes.
