The photographs above are courtesy of Don Cross whose father served on Royal Sovereign.

My father took these photographs during his tour of duty on H. M. S. Royal Sovereign between August 1941 and August 1942. As a Sub-Lieutenant (E) Raymond H. C. Cross, joined Royal Sovereign as an Engineer Officer on 6th August 1941 at Greenock, Scotland. He sailed with Royal Sovereign to the Indian Ocean in November 1941 via Freetown, Sierra Leone and Durban, South Africa, and served escort duty out of Mombasa, Trincomalee, Addu Atoll and Bombay. He was on board when Royal Sovereign escorted the last convoy into Singapore before it fell to the Japanese on 15th February 1942.

He subsequently served on H. M. S. Adamant out of Colombo, and on H. M. S. Cleopatra. He was on board when the Commander-in-Chief received the surrender of Singapore from the Japanese on Cleopatra on 3rd September 1945.
