MESSAGES
HARRY HOLLAND: My father in law served on HMS Duke of
York as a radar operator, including in the action against the
Scharnhorts and other campaigns. He has just celebrated his 80th birthday
and is in good health. He also served a while on the Free French
Battleship Richelieu and has a impressive haul of medals. Does anyone
remembers him. please contact me at uptonius@blueyonder.co.uk
HENRY LE MAGUER.. my
daughter Marianne ROBIN is the grand grand daughter of henry le
maguer (my ex -wife is the grand daughter), 1940 military diver who went
in the half distroyed Richelieu , with his diving suit and brass helm to
close a waterproof door , left open in the panic of th attack and so ,
allow the pumping and repair of the ship. he got a medal for that ,
because it was a deadly job ( just think of the fact to go alone in the
interior of the devastated ship, full of water and oil , in the dark and
the after-battle mess , and take the risk to ripe your air conduct by
touching any cutting piece of metal ! Henry le maguer worked
with commander COUSTEAU at the beginning , and then was port captain of
"le port " (réunion island) the old man died some
8 years ago but his family still live and keeps oral tradition about
that . Are you interested? Pascal ROBIN boulys@aol.com
