American aircraft carrier USS Ranger.
Naval history of USS Ranger, American aircraft carrier, from launch to participation in major wars also notice board for

ex-crew of USS Ranger. During
World War Two the USS Ranger wa sthe only large US Aircraft carrie rin
the Atlantic fleet. USS Ranger supplied air cover for the
Amphibious landings in French Morocco on the 8th November 1942.
Her aircrfat contributed 496 combat sorties in the three day
campaign. Went to refit at the Norfolk Navy Yard on the 16th
december 1942 until 7th february 1943. Returning to duty by
transporting 75 P40 aircraft to Africa, arriving at Casablanca on the
23rd febraury 1943. After providing Pilot training of New england.
she returned to the britsh Home Fleet at Scapa Flow 19th August
1943. On 2nd October her aircraft particitpated in attacks on
German shipping in Norwegian waters, damagin six shios including a oil
tanker. USS Ranger continued with the Royal Navy as part of
the seocnd battle squadron until 1944 when she went for major refit. and
then operate dout of dan Diego. and for the rest of the war her dutires
were Pilot training of California. Displacement:
14,732 tons standard and 18,288 tons full load. Speed: 30.3 knots,
Ar,ament: Eight 5-inch guns, Sixteen 1.1 inch AA guns and sixteen
.5 inch AA Guns. Aircraft 70. Crew 1788 |
