Submarine histories. Royal Navy Porpoise class submarines. Submarine website dedicated to the history of HMS Porpoise from launch to participation in major wars also notice board for families of ex-crew of Porpoise Class submarines.

HMS Porpoise was built by Vickers Armstrong at Barrow and launched 30th August 1932. Built as a mine laying submarine. she was completed with saddle-tanks. and her hull was similar to the Parthian class submarines.  HMS Porpoise was sunk by Japanese aerial bombing on the 16th January 1945

HM Submarine Porpoise.

Displacement: 1500 tons    Compliment: 59.    Armament: 6 x 21 inch torpedo tubes ( bow, 12 torpedoes). One 4.7 inch quick-firing MkIX gun, plus 50 mines.      Speed: surface speed 15.5 knots, submerged speed 8.75 knots
