JAMES ALBERT POYTON
I have just found a photo of my father in his uniform. The cap badge
clearly says HMS MALAYA. I suspect it was taken around 1924. His name
was James Albert Poyton. I would love to get hold of any information
that may be relevant. I know he was at HMS Ganges in 1920, served
sometime in the Turkey area and was invalided with a weak heart sometime
in the late 20s. He finished as an acting Chief Petty Officer I think.
That is all I know. I do have a few old photos some of which I guess
were on HMS Malaya. Ian Poyton. contact

FREDERICK WALTER DIXON.. My Father Frederick Walter Dixon
served on the HMS Valiant and HMS Malaya during the war as a Leading
Seaman. I would like
to hear from anyone who remembers him and in particular if anybody knows
anything about the accident which cost him his life in Portsmouth
Harbour on the 2nd June 1947 as my mother was never given any details as
to what happened apart from the fact that the launch was in collision
with a boat. His
body was found three weeks later washed ashore on Thorney Island.

I
am hoping to locate old shipmates who served with my dad aboard the
H.M.S. Malaya in 1943. He was born in Rosyth, Scotland on Sept. 1, 1924.
I would love to hear from anyone who might have details of life aboard
this great ship. I wish it had been preserved like many battleships in
the USA. I live in Rochester,NY He loved this ship very much. I believe
he left the ship while at sea when he became very ill and was transfered
to another ship by lines passed to the other ship. I think this was in
August of '43. He later served aboard a minesweeper at D-Day, 6/6/44.
Very glad to see this new site! Regards,
Kevin Thomas Murphy

Grandfather Charles Henry Trinder served on HMS Malaya from the time she
was commissioned until 1919. He took part in the battle of Jutland and
as can be seen from the photo was a ships carpenter & diver. As
such, he would have been involved in damage control. If any one can
supply any information about the action and the crew muster list during
the period 1916-1919 I would be grateful. Neil

MESSAGE FOR MR GARNER...While looking through the HMS Valiant site
I came across the photograph of your father on the ship. I have three
photographs taken on one of these ships around the dates you mention.
My father was a stoker on both the Malaya &Valiant during the war
; HMS Malaya:- May 1942 - October 1943. HMS Valiant:- May 1944- October 1946.
As far as I know these dates are correct,
he was on the ship during the dry dock incident. Perhaps Mr Garner knew him?
His full name was Walter Arthur Chaney known as Arthur, from Yorkshire. Kind Regards, Edward Chaney.
