Japanese naval history of the aircraft
carrier Kaga. Originally a battleship, Kaga was converted to a carrier
and took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor and the battle of Midway during world war II.
Laid
down as the battleship Kaga the design was changed after the Washington
Treaty of 1922 as a aircraft carrier. The conversion started in
1924. she was finally completed in March 1928 at Yokosuka. Tha Kaga
joined the Combined Fleet in 1930 as some minor work delayed her
joining service. She was fitted with three flight decks in a similar style
to HMS Furious. The flight decks were
again altered in 1935 with the removal of two decks and the top deck extended
the full length. it was at this time the aircraft capacity was
increased to 90 from 6-0 aircraft. Along with the carrier
Akagi she made up the First carrier Division. and was in constant service
and action as part of Admiral Nagumo's force but her service was short
lived as she was sunk at the battle of midway by American Bombers.

Armament: Ten 8-inch guns in single mountings, Sixteen 5 inch
guns and twenty two 25mm AA guns plus 60 and then increased to
90 aircraft.
